Kid's 1st Birthday Party - Is Alcohol Appropriate?

I'm invited to a friend's kids first b-day party. The invite says BYOB. I feel kind of weird drinking at 1 year old's b-day party, so I may not. Is it appropriate to have alcohol at a child's b-day party or just events with lots of children around in general? I don't remember seeing it a lot at family gatherings and birthdays when I was a kid.
Just want to get the OT's take on this.

We went through 12 cases of beer at my kid's first party
I bought it all though cause I'm not trashy enough to tell people they have to bring their own

At 1, kids don't drink too much, so you don't have to bring a lot.

I'd drink at it. Not get thrown but maybe catch a little buzz.

I think I'd just stay home.

Sure. We are a culture of alcoholics. But when I had people over at 11:00 for pizza and pinatas I wasn't making them drinks.

It's not like the kids are drinking. I mean unless y'all are going to shotgun beers and get trashed I see no problem with having a few beers.

Yeah dude. We had beer and burgers at my kids 1st bday party. She was too young to realize what was going on anyway...

1st birthday party is always just excuse to have a reason to soak cake in hard liquor and mix with ice cream

It's appropriate for trashy people who are bad parents.
