I am probably gonna make my first trip to Lafitte Sunday. Is is better to put in at Joe's or Lafitte Harbor? I would like to catch some reds and specs. I know the specs are just now showing up in spots, but I have heard the reds are on fire down there. I usually go to Decade, Mechant, or Sister Lake. I have always been curious about Lafitte. I have done as much research as I can from maps. Is it best to fish for reds in Perot? Ponds off of either Perot or Rigolletts? What about fishing the wall? Is there any danger or shallow areas I should be concerned about? TIA...any help would be greatly appreciated.

Don't go unless you have someone that has been. Even with a good aerial map that area is confusing.

Exactly this

I've NEVER had a great day out of Lafitte.

You're better off at Lake P, or the Decade area

I've been twice, both times in the summer (july-ish). We fished the area around bay Lours with pretty good success after doing a little *gasp* internet scouting on LA sportsman. I'm not sure if that's the spot to fish at this time of year though.

I would either fish Lake Salvador or the Pen. (both lakes fish the east side) You can also run into the Rigolets and fish the east bank working points. I would start there and then learn a little bit more as you go.
