I got veneers a few weeks ago (got the permanent ones a week ago) and there is a black line at the top of the veneer. They said "that's your margins" and it will take three weeks for the "gums to drop" because the temporary teeth apparently push the gums up.

I know it's only been a week, but it doesn't look like anything has changed yet or any progress has been made. Should I just chill the frick out and wait a couple more weeks for results? What are the options if nothing changes? Will they have to redo the entire tooth? The whole point of getting this done is to have, you know, a seamless transition of white tooth to my gums like normal people.

Sounds like something you should ask the dentist about, dont ya think? Not trying to be a dick, but you paid him money to do something he is very specialized in. The OT didnt take your money and doesn't know shite about veneers.

I love how the dentist said it would take up to 3 weeks and you are looking for differences after 1 week.

Why don't you do something crazy, like I don't know, listen to what the dentist and wait the 3 weeks before questioning his work

I know that seems nuts, but it may just work out ya know?

Sounds like bleeding during cementation. You have to have good hygiene around the temporary veneers or the gums get irritated. If blood contaminates the margin while cementing, it will become stained. It is possible that the gums will cover the area up. Only time will tell. If not, it is possible to polish out if it is superficial. If it is more than superficial, it will have to be redone.

Appears to be superficial, so "medically" it's not an issue.

I'm surprised it hasn't been said yet but no change after the first week is definitely a sign of AIDS.

I am curious...what the hell is the point of installing temporary veneers?...is there a part of the process that requires it?...

If they're like crowns, they have to shape the teeth first and take impressions. Then the permanents take a couple of weeks to get made.

Sounds like a contamination upon cementation issue or leakage It's a little early for stains from leakage to occur, but it could happen. I wouldn't expect to see any kind of dark line at the margins at any time and I sure as heck wouldn't expect gingiva to cover it up. You may see a small rebound of tissue, but I wouldn't bank on it. If anything the gingiva will receed a hair over the next couple years.

Doen't sound acceptable to me.

Veneers aren't made in PFM FWIW. Only solid ceramics. There are a few choices among those these days. But if they were full or 3/4 crowns and not actually laminate veneers, then they could be PFM. Not likely though.
