Office phone won't call a number

So, my office phone will not allow me to call my parent's house which is local. When I dial the number it goes straight to a busy signal. I can then pick up my cell phone and call and it works fine. Can anyone think of a reason why this might be? Thanks.

No, we have zero restrictions. I am an investment advisor so being able to call people is pretty critical.

try a '9' to get out first?
if local try adding a '1' after the 9.
if local try adding a 9-1-[area code] then the number.
if none of those work, not sure

Been doing this 14 years and yes I can call other numbers. I tried calling from other offices as well with no luck. My parents are clients of the firm.

Ask your IS to reset the phone system...
See if anyone else is having the same issue

try it from another phone in the office?
unplug your phone, and plug it back in? I'm assuming it's an IP phone.
if you call from your cell phone, do they answer, or do you get their voicemail?

In the way back late 1990's and early 2000's sometimes your local phone service carrier would swap
Local Option Service (LOS) carriers on you and the new carrier would require a PIN code or something to start making those calls that weren't long distance but outside of regular local calls...
Maybe call your phone company and describe the problem to them.

You should definitely be talking to your IT or Phone people, not the tech board.

Dial 9 to get out? Area code not needed on cell? Dial 1+ area code, not needed on cell? Do you work at a collection agency and parents are blocking the calls, lol?
Real fast busy signal or regular?

sometimes this happens on our IP phones. It is a phone company problem. Need to call ATT or Cox or whomever.

That would be a your IS department problem...If I called Cox to tell them my phone system wasn't handing out IP addys, they wouldn't know what page in their book to turn to
