We would cut the person shirt tail off and hang it up on wall with the year and the date.
How many still does this traditional?

It teach you not to miss.

I have two on the wall at the camp. The first one was with a sweet 16 at 12 year old. Shot on the run and hit 3 trees.

I cut my cousins he was around 12 and uncle got pissed. Lil fricker shouldn't have missed a 130 lb doe at 20 yards. The day before that I had to get put stand and take shite. 8 point walked out and he never shot. I was pissed.

I wear them once then throw them away, so I couldn't care less if you cut it up or not.

You think a 12 year old cares about his shirt being cut. I plan on cutting my kids shirts, and bloodying up that face on their first. I hope they don't want to quit from the trauma. If they do, I will go get their little nuts out of mamas purse and try again.

We still do it at our camp. Hang them on the wall inside. Makes for great stories after the whiskey starts flowing.

My family use to hunt the land before tensas wild life refuge existed. There were enough shirt tails on the wall to provide a lot of insulation. Miss those days...

Nope not one bit. But what kind of tradition is this? We blooded the faces for killing first deer but never punished for failure. Why pour salt on the wound by humiliating someone in front of the whole camp.

This was before the political correctness! It sucked when it happened to you but it only lasted a night or two. The kids loved having their name on their shirt tail up on the wall along with a lot of grown experienced men. All part of the camp experience.

I would never think of it as humiliating. shite, its the elephant in the room, you may as well have fun with it...it isn't like he is shooting a bow. Everyone knows a shot was fired and the meatpole is empty.

I had mine cut, I thought it was the next best thing to killing a deer....look around the camp and see about three others walking around with old waffle thermals missing bits Had an uncle looked like he had his tail caught in a lawnmower. It was like being part of the group.

I cant imagine a camp environment that would lead to humiliation, it was always the most loving fun place for a boy is what I remember.

I guess I can see that side too.

I've never really been in a camp. We've always hunted close to home. I know missing sucks and never thought about the humor of camp horseplay being therapeutic.

Some of my best camp memories of both my grandpa and uncle who are both dead came from the ribbing I took for missing. When my kids are old enough they will be losing their shirt tail if they miss. The saying around my camp is if you have never missed a deer you probably have not been hunting very long.
