Geez that's heartbreaking, but having had a family member that had a glioblastoma, I can understand. My sisters situation was different because they didn't find hers until she had a seizure, then she died 2 days later, and I don't think my parents would have ever wanted her to choose her last day, but she was relatively pain free until the end.

I guess I would hold out hope that either it was misdiagnosed or that something would come out that may help cure/prolong my life without any harsh side effects.

Well, the thread title doesn't really match why this lady decided to euthanize herself. I was checking to see if OP was trying to condescending with his thread tite

This.

She's going out on her own terms and that is something that should be supported by everybody.

The date she wants to die is November 1, is that this year or another year?

It only takes watching one family member die of cancer to support an individual's ability to choose.

Even if you lose the ability to move, speak, see, or control your bowels?

What's the point in living like a vegetable, forcing my loved ones to wipe up my shite 5 times a day? How is that life?

My girlfriend works in a job where she's in the operating room when they operate on these tumors and it's heartbreaking. They go through these incredibly complex brain surgeries to maybe give these people a couple more months with a really poor quality of life sometimes. Just horribly sad...and flat out scary to think that sometimes your card just gets pulled and your time here is done.

I know you are responding to another post, but the date she set is so soon and it seems like the above quote doesn't describe her. I'd want to to spend every day that I felt healthy alive and with family. How many days will her husband and family miss that she would have otherwise looked and felt relatively fine?

Not judging, just wondering.

That seems fast. Doctors gave her 10 years, but she decides to end it in less than 1 year. I would wait until shite starting getting bad. Or maybe it already is with the headaches. I definitely support her right, but I don't think I could make that decision so quickly.

I would do the same. Well, I wouldn't want a doctor to do it, I'd settle all my affairs, go to some very remote place and let the 1911 do the rest.

While I understand the decision, I don't believe death should ever be a choice for anyone.

To get to the political side, people should be very careful about wanting euthanasia to be legalized. This county has two very strong opinions that are dangerous together.

1. The government should run health care.
2. Euthanasia should be legal.

You know where I see this going? The government decides when you are worth paying for.

It said the cancer got worse

quote:

Maynard’s tumor ended up progressing to glioblastoma multiforme, the deadliest form of cancer with an average life expectancy of 14 months. Doctors told Maynard her death would likely be slow and painful

With 14 months to live, I imagine she is already in pain.

They initially gave her 10 years. In a follow up scan, they realized it was much bigger and gave her ~6 months....
