anyone that has played at a pretty high level (high school on up) will probably know the answer to this question. I don't mean sitting on the bench, I mean guys that have been players know that there are a lot of factors that determine how well a team plays.

-experience
-team chemistry
-knowledge of assignments
-discipline on the field
-knowledge of the plays
-motivation
-team leadership

just to name a few. also, underclassmen are generally not as developed as upperclassmen (as a rule).

I honestly think this team improves during the season and gels or somewhat gels before it's over and turns out to be a pretty good team.

I frankly don't think we have the talent at key positions, or the coaching, to become a good team this year. I think it's crystal clear, from the games we've seen, who we are.

I also think there's a decent chance we go into a death spiral. Frustration by the players, both with the performance of other players and also with the coaching, could drain our motivation.

This weekend at the Swamp (and I'll be there) will tell me a lot about the mental makeup of this team. The talent just isn't there this year, but if we're going down, I hope we go fighting.

I guess those starters now have jobs and can't post during the day.

i'm sure most on here would agree with you. other than the DL I can't see your talent argument.

as far as the coaching goes, we've seen these coaches a long time. it's hard for me to believe that "all of a sudden" they can't coach.

Of course.

But at the college level (especially the pro level) it only takes 1 or definitely 2 positions on the defense or offense to make a mistake or be out played by the opposition then YOUR WHOLE TEAM SUCKS.

On defense we are getting out played in the middle of the DL and middle linebacker positions. Good teams are attacking the middle of our defense. Expect more because that is our weakness.

Fix that and our defense goes from suckage to championship.

On offense we are getting inconsistent play from the QB position (play calling is also making that position more difficult). Get more consistent play from the QB position the entire look of the team can change. See Jamis Winston. See Dak Prescott. See Cam Newton. See Tim Tebow. etc. etc. etc.

No. You question makes no sense. If talented and well-coached,they will always play well. They may lose, but not play like this bunch.

Yes, they can. Turnovers is one reason in football.

Also sometimes the better team just has a bad game. If you played sports at all, you know this happens. I watched a couple of Pete Carroll USC teams play terrible games and lose to teams that had less talent and weren't as well coached.

Yes! It's up to the coaches to make sure this doesn't happen too often. I hate to say it but I don't see a big turn around as we have in the past but I'm still hoping for the best and always will for our tigers.

admit it, you've never played at a high level.

i'm a baseball guy mostly, but team dynamics are still very powerful in baseball. not near as much as football tho.

You wont find the answer to that question on the rant. 99.9% of posters here would have gotten cut from their junor high team. If they made it even that far.

It happens in the NBA, in major league baseball, and in the NFL all the time.

In the last years of Marino/Shula era the Miami Dolphins tried to "buy" a Super Bowl. Their roster had something like 19 first round picks & 10 2nd rounders. Based on the roster, they should have at least made one Super Bowl. They played decent enough but never made it past the divisional round of the playoffs.

football truly is a team sport and all positions are vital. one guy fricks up and the play can easily blow up. the guy that fricks up might be damn talented he just missed his assignment (or forgot it).

freshmen are shakey.

Yes, and the people here who say having so much youth and inexperience is not an excuse for losing are freaking retarded. It is a rebuilding year for us and we have to deal with it and continue to support or Tigers. The only real disappointment for me this year is the O-line play. The QB will mature, and our wide receivers are ahead of the curve. LF will be great. Our secondary will be elite.
The line play on both sides of the ball and linebacker positions are a major concern. I think it will a couple of years to fix this. We've missed out on some big time linemen and its left us in a bad situation. Do we have the best coaching staff in college football, no we don't. We could be doing allot worse. Programs rise and fall, always have, always will. Just go and support your Tigers win or lose, eat some good food and enjoy being an American. Try not to get infected with Ebola or blown up by a fricking terrorist, because that is something really worth worrying about.
