However, in 14 states it is illegal for a driver to use a hand-held cell phone; while 44 states have primary enforcement laws against texting while driving?

Because they are specifically trained for it.

They're cops dude. They dgaf about public safety.

Always funny when cops lobby for exceptions/exemptions from legislation aimed at public safety.

That is a great question. We are not supposed to type on it, but it definitly causes a distraction while driving. All of our calls are updated on it and we have warnings etc come up on it. The young guys depend on this technology a heck of a lot more than the older ones. At least our new models have a robot voice that gives us updates verbally instead of us having to read it.

If it causes a distraction it should not be in the vehicle. ^^^^^^ this is why I dislike policemen. I could name about 350+ other reasons but i'll just leave it at that... Hypocrites

Lol at training making it ok.

I texted during class in high school without even taking my phone out my pocket.

Does that count as 4 years of training?

I walk these mean streets, and I want go to my family. If that means putting the rest of society in a little more danger, it's ok BECAUSE I'M HERE TO MITIGATE DANGER TO SOCIETY.

They are a great tool, but officers are human and the young ones do look at them while driving. Just like you look at your phone. How is that being a hypocrite? I didn't tell them to put it in my car or to put it in a place that distracts me. I usually just have my screen down anyway and put it up at a light or stop sign.

Because in 44 states it is a primary enforcement offense to use text while driving, If a cop sees you looking at your phone he could pull you over for reasonable suspicion. Meanwhile cops are able to look at, and type on, their computers while driving without having to worry about being hassled.

It's not a big deal but the other thread about the cop threatening to call CPS for a traffic stop got me thinking about the issue.

Just because a few do it doesn't mean a majority do it. The OT likes to lump all officers into one big pile, but if a officer does the same thing then they are called racist, profilers, etc.

Just because a lot of cop haters live in Mom's basement and can't hold a job doesn't mean I don't like all guys that live in their Mom's basement.
