Can anyone explain this to me. I googled NOLA sales tax rate. Wasn't sure exactly what it was at now.

The part that I don't get is the "part of nola is located in jefferson parish"...??? :wutwutwutwut:

I did return something to CVS on Carrolton by Cosco the other day and the tax rate was 8.5 and the girl told me it's the only store in NO that isn't at 9 from what she remembers working at other stores.

And this isn't a money board topic, more of a "where is New Orleans considered Jeff Parish?"

Am I just stupid and should know this?

Ahhh wasn't thinking about the airport. That is actually New Orleans, but that's kinda weak withy he way it's stated

Also why would that one CVS with is pretty close to Jeff parish as a crow flies have the same sales tax as Jeff and the others in "nola" are at the New Orleans 9% rate?

Pretty sure the address for Ochsner says New Orleans.

That would be odd considering I used to do vendor work at the Lowes on Jefferson Hwy that is even closer to the supposed nola line, and when I had stuff sent there it was a jefferson parish address

I believe it is the part of Jefferson Parish that has a zip code that begins with 701.

I believe all Orleans Parish codes start 701. However, some in Jefferson start with 701, i.e. River Ridge is 70123.

That all seems a little odd. Do we have nopd officers in the elmwood area patrolling?

Good call, I used to live in RR near Riverside Church. The good ol'123. Always wanted to move back there.

I think this is where that website got confused. There are parts of Jefferson Parish, near Jeff Hwy, that for US mail purposes, list a city of "New Orleans". But, it's not actually in the city of New Orleans.

As for MSY, I'm fairly certain MSY has it's own tax system.

Elmwood/River Ridge/Harahan is a cluster Frick in that aspect. Many autofills online will put RRs 70123 zip as Nola for the city. (weird that its designated that as Gentilly is 70122 and not even close by) Elmwood and RR are patrolled by JPSO while Harahan, located sort of in between the two, has their own police department, Harahan PD. All the while Causeway PD works the Huey P. NOPD is nowhere out that way.

But in reference to the question in your OP, its the airport.

Harahan is considered New Orleans but is in Jefferson.

I do not disagree. My Kmart receipt from the other day said New Orleans - the Kmart is in Harahan.

A city can fall into multiple parishes. Shreveport is in Caddo and Bossier. Different taxing rates, city level, then parish, then state, for sales tax purposes.

Harahan, River Ridge, Elmwood and parts of the corridor along Jefferson Highway are in New Orleans. The airport is located in Kenner but it is owned by New Orleans.

Zip codes don't define political subdivisions.
