From a business perspective, not only would the dual system device potentially benefit Intel because it uses the company’s X86 chip, but it would also help Microsoft make a deeper Windows market penetration, possibly muscling out Android in some areas. That didn’t sit well with Google.

Maybe it's because it's Friday and my brain so starting to shut down, but how does a dual boot windows/android machine hurt android when they give it away for free to mobile OEMs? What am I missing?

ETA: and yes, that would have actually been pretty awesome.

They give it away for free because more people running Android is more people using apps that generate revenue for Google. Windows/Android dual-boot just means the device will run Android less than a pure Android device would.

So like it was an ATT samsung device? shite barely feels like an Android experience after using GPE ROMs

Right now, there aren't any laptops running android though right? Wouldn't getting android into laptops in some form or fashion be better than nothing?

Not necessarily. Full Win8 (with the ability to run dekstop Windows programs) vs Android on a machine with a physical keyboard and a touchpad isn't really a fair comparison, and it could very well hurt the perception of Android.

Windows basically kicks the shite out of Android on a laptop, and if I were Google I wouldn't want people to be comparing the two on the same machine, either.

Nor is it a fair comparison on a laptop. Be like also comparing Windows 8 to iOS 8 on a laptop.
