Baton Rouge Children's Knock Knock Museum

Read the linked article in The Advocate this morning. It seems like this is third article I've read on the Children's Knock Knock Museum over the past two years referencing the "upcoming ground breaking," that, for whatever reason, always seems to get delayed. Does anyone know why this project has taken 10 years to come to fruition and why it continues to get delayed? It's really sad that a city the size of Baton Rouge doesn't have a children's museum like the ones in Lafayette and New Orleans.

If I was John Delgado I would blame this on St. George. Instead I will opine that they are too busy stealing from the citizens (CATS employees) and promoting themselves (BR City Council) to worry about doing something for the children.

Sadly, its the same issues New Orleans is having with upgrading theirs (move to City Park), the funding isn't there.
These are non-profit organizations that lean heavily on large donations from corporations. Regular admission sometimes barely covers repairs and staffing, in no way could admission cost cover the building of a state of the art children's museum. Indianapolis Children's museum was something along the lines of $25m+ to build theirs.

Even little old Hammond has a children's museum.
Baton Rouge is severely lagging in this area.

Have you never heard of Discovery Depot?

The St. George's children's museum will put all other children's museums to shame.

This has been in the works since at least 2007. It is never going to happen.

The best Children's Museum I ever visited was the one in St. Louis, MO. I always loved the one in New Orleans, though.

The one in St. Louis is absolutely insane. I went this past summer. You could spend 2-3 days in there and not see everything. To this day, I'm still awed

What's in a children's museum? Old toys and artifacts of days gone by? Old kids clothing? Dead kids? Why is it a museum?

It's usually exhibits that allow kids to play and do fun stuff while simultaniously learning about some kind of concept.
For example: in New Orleans, there's one where you can make a giant bubble all around yourself AND next to it is a little blurb about surface tension. There's also an exhibit with a nightly news set complete with green screens. A kid can play with the weather set while also learning about storm fronts and pressure systems.
It's a way for kids to learn while having fun playing, like educational video games that they physically play with and interact with rather than via a controller.

I see. Not really a museum but more of an interactive learning experience.

Memphis has one. It has a mini grocery store, Fed Ex cockpit/front of plane, dance area, climbing area, etc.
Just a place for the kids to run around.

We were members, but they haven't been doing much upkeep on that place. It's starting to show it's age.

Exactly. A trip to the Children's museum was like the greatest thing ever before video games were invented. Kids got to play with all kinds of cool stuff and games and parents got to have the smug satisfaction that their child was learning things.
