LSU should defuse the pass in a play-action venue.

Defuse is surely a word, but "venue" doesn't mean situation.

It is a weird sentence. Do you have a link? Maybe it makes more sense with context?

Les confuses the hell out of us...I can only imagine the laughs other coaching staffs get listening to him speak.

Miles utilizes more misdirection in his press conferences than he does in the run game, from syntax to word choice... to pronunciation.
I didn't hear it, but wonder if he may have been trying to say "diffuse" instead of "defuse". I can see them sounding similar coming from him.
Diffuse would make more sense:
dif·fuse
verb

spread or cause to spread over a wide area or among a large number of people.
"technologies diffuse rapidly"
synonyms: spread, spread around, send out, disseminate, scatter, disperse, distribute, put about, circulate, communicate, purvey, propagate, transmit, broadcast, promulgate
It would still be a slightly odd word choice, but makes sense that he might say they intend to spread the ball around the field a little more effectively in the passing game. (I noted in another thread last week that through the first few games LSU was only throwing to the flats or deep along the sideline as these were the safest areas with the least number of defenders that could potentially pick the ball off.) Of course, most coaches would've just said they intended to spread the ball around and use the whole field better.

a) Any field could be (strangely) referred to as a play-action venue during gametime in the same way a high school gym ceases being a gym and becomes a dancefloor for a school dance.
b) Might be a comment on how they intend to use Harris or on Auburn's defense. If Auburn's D applies pressure in a way that makes the coaches want to employ more play-action with Harris, then Les is letting his inner poet flourish. He embedded two or three meanings in those 2 and a half words.

I applaud your effort to decipher this one, but it appears that Miles didn't actually say what is in the Subject. I think the OP read that on DandyDon.com:

Aside from the transcription confusion, I like your idea of more effective diffusion in the passing game.

Someday, someone might publish the Les Miles lexicon and lift the veil for us all. Until then we can only sift through his droppings and search for meaning.
Sometimes Miles and the fanbase sort of remind me of Colonel Kurtz and the Dennis Hopper character in Apocalypse now:

Yep, he really is a likable guy and doesn't take himself too seriously. Some will hold that against him, but I respect it.
