I'm trying to figure out how many passes Drew has attempted over 30-40 yards. I can remember maybe 2 against atlanta, but no completions.

We have heard all offseason how fast Cooks is and how we have a deep threat again to stretch defenses.

To my knowledge, Cooks hasnt been thrown a single deep pass in the 40+ yard range. I am of the opinion that Drew, either because of oblique injury or age, is struggling to attempt the bomb type passes.

Can anyone confirm / refute the bomb pass stats?

He had that perfect 46 yard pass to Stills (completed about 40 yards down field) against the Cowboys.

In either the Atl or Cle game, Cooks was targeted for like a 40+ yard pass towards the endzone that was a bit overthrown.

...a lot goes into big plays outside of QB arm strength

He's been putting a lot of heat on some sideline passes for having lost a noodle arm

I disagree, arm strength is what made Jamarcus Russell so successful in the NFL

If his arm was the issue he could not have made that pass. When the camera is pulled back you can see teams are playing two deep safeties and giving us the underneath stuff.

yep...and it will be like that frequently if we aren't running or are constantly playing from behind

As usual the run will open up the pass. Also when we are playing with the lead teams dont want to give us the underneath routes and allow 6-7 minute drives. As long as we are playing catch up a teams are happy to not give up the deep ball and let us hold the ball for a while.

The one deepish pass to Cooks I remember (incomplete), he was blanketed by two DBs and the ball never should have been thrown. Think it was the Atlanta game.

Afraid the deep ball has begun to fade for Brees, despite his offseason regimen. First noticeable thing for an aging QB. Hints two years ago, obvious last year IMO.

i believe stats were posted to argue against this "lack of arm strength" stuff. he also had some deep throws against dallas. ever think its our receivers not being open and defenses playing a safety over the top thats preventing the deep ball?

2nd most yards, 15 tds, 2 ints despite bad center play and only a rookie deep threat

His arm sure looked good on that 45 yarder to stills that was dropped in like a babu

Stats on deep passes?

I don't have stats on passes 30-40 yards deep.
However, I do have PFF's stats on "deep passes;" and they categorize deep passes as beyond 20 yards from the LOS.

In this stat, Brees is currently 7th in accuracy (at 46.2%), ahead of Matt Ryan, Aaron Rodgers, Peyton Manning, Philip Rivers, Nick Foles, and Tom Brady.

However, Brees is very low on number of attempts, as only 8.1% of his passes are beyond 20 yards.
No wonder our offense keeps stalling...defenses rarely have to worry that Brees will attempt a deep pass.
Payton needs to let him do his thing.

There you go with facts and logic again. That will ruin the fantasy that the haters have about Drew being done.
