PFF Stats for Game #4

Rough going. These stats are ugly.
OFFENSE
-I'm not sure I agree at all with the complaints about Brees. Maybe he's not the strongest, but he's making plays.
-Here's a bigger problem: look at the pass blocking...a -3.7 overall. That's going to hurt no matter what.
-A big chunk of that negative grade is Goodwin. So why the frick did we trot him out there? He's CLEARLY still injured. I thought Lelito played just fine when he subbed in. Another stupid Payton decision.
-Run blocking was rough, too. Harris didn't do a great job there, but I guess that's to be expected.
-It frustrates me that our receivers still aren't getting open. Look at these grades.
-What's something we know about Brees? Pressure up the middle is his kryptonite. Our guards are not being reliable in any way...and center remains a question mark.
-On a positive note, Robinson is filling in for Ingram nicely. But Cadet isn't doing anything particularly well.
DEFENSE
-A -8.0 coverage score is brutal, but it's hard to argue against it.
-Wow, even our two reliable pass rushers did very little on Sunday night. I don't know what to take from that. PFF notes: This is the first time under Rob Ryan that Cam Jordan has failed to register a pressure, the last time he was blanked also came in Dallas in Week 16 of the 2012 season.
-Another PFF stat: Vaccaro has nine of the Saints’ 44 missed tackles through four games, last season they only missed 77 in 16 games.
-Humber is probably the least talked about disappointment. shite, I didn't think it was possible to get worse than Hawthorne, but Humber is trying his damndest.
-I still think Walker should never leave the field.
-Hicks...not a terrible week, but nothing to write home about.
-I don't have many solutions for the defense. There's a lot wrong.

Our best players are in the red on defense. WHAT IN THE ACTUAL frick, Saints?

I went back and watched a good portion of his throws from this season. He's made some nice escapes so far this year

It's annoying that the game day posters blame every issue from the offense on Brees.
It's reductive.
That's why I waited until Wednesday to post these.
I want an actual discussion outside of "we're fricked. Everyone sucks."

It's more annoying when you suck his dick.
Anyone who has watched this season has seen him making questionable decisions and terrible throws. It's obvious something is off and denying it is laughable.

Damn, I thought the game day posters left.
Anyone else have anything to add?

it's not Brees...he has been very good...it's interior pass blocking and dropped passes.
...the most encouraging thing from the game for me is that Keenan Lewis did a pretty nice job on Dez Bryant...his best game this season by far

Almost like he's been under constant pressure...
And his accuracy % is over 80% despite playing 3 of our 4 games on the road.
He's been playing very good football whether you see it or not. Hell, we dropped the 1st 2 passes against Dallas. Graham had at least 30-40 yards on that play.
Dropped TD on a PERFECT throw to Meachem vs CLE. Like I said, he's been great at avoiding pressure this year and extending plays

Payton mentioned post-game something about not asking players to do what they're not good at...wonder what he was referring to.
Vaccaro got beat badly by Witten on a couple of key third downs

But our OL has been getting older...and more questionable.
His passes over 20 yards past the LOS are hardly bad.
We've been talking about replacing Grubbs for years.
Maybe we should look at Evans, too.

I want an actual discussion
Payton has lost his excellence. His play calling is stale, his schemes are a complete failure, and he no longer adjusts anything. It seems out genius leader lost his mind when Goodell banned him from the league.
Brees has lost the edge. His throws are limp, his decisions are questionable, his little hissy fit after the body slam was very telling. He's frustrated and he's upset and the cool field general offensive surgeon he used to be is gone.
The oline is deplorable and warrant no more discussion.
Our relievers no longer get separation, drop balls all over the field, and fumble. It is a combination of coaching and play calling as well as their mindset but it is upsetting.
Our running backs are the light in the darkness on this team and if Payton was smart he'd run the ball the entire first half, then let Brees take over the second half on a tired defense forced to respect the run.
Countless stalled drives, 3 and outs, empty backfield busted plays, our offense is is a major problem and to deny it is to show your ignorance.
Then we turn to the defense. The dline can't get pressure, the linebackers barely qualify as football players, and the corners outside of Lewis are God awful. Our schemes are failing miserably and there's never an adjustment.
We never blitz and our defense suffers terribly for it. Our safeties play 30 yards plus off the line which makes them unable to do anything except tackle the ball carrier someone else has already missed.

I've been saying this forever. I don't see anything special with him. He is just a guy out there but for some reason Drew and Sean love him. With every other RB we've had under Payton, you could see great potential.

His throws are limp,
That just isn't true. He's throwing lasers this year whenever he has time.

Like when he did the same thing against the Texans in 2011

Someone said we're third in the league in terms of blitzes, but that just feels wrong.

I don't see it...pressure, drops, and turnovers...still 3rd in passing yards, and Brees is 2nd in accuracy percentage
Posted on 10/1/14 at 11:30 am to TigerBait1127
yeah, blitzing this year is a no-win for us. We rushed 7 or 8 multiple times this year and only once did anyone even touch the QB.

That's insane. And if it's true, we never blitz on situations when we need to.
Every aspect of this team is deplorable from coaching to the players on the bench. And what is so frustrating is that we are so close to being a great team. We are 4 or 5 plays away from being 3-1 or 4-0. But that is what separates greatness from mediocrity. The little extra that wins those games. This team used to have it, but it is gone for now.
