We have an old 1992 Jeep Cherokee on the family farm that I want to fix up.

It looks something like this:

I'd like to put a small lift on the Jeep so I can run some larger tires on it.

This is what I would like:

or

What size lift would I need, and I guess I'm shooting for 32 or 33 inch tires?

32's might already fit. 2" should be plenty though.

Don't lift that thing. You'll end up with more problems than the larger tired could ever cure.

I don't think so, it sits really low. A lot lower than my 2008 Grand Cherokee, but maybe the 1992 has deep wells.

(As to the poster who said don't, why not? that 1992 Jeep has been a workhorse that laughs at new Jeeps.)

Those aren't 32 or 33s in that picture. 32 and 33s look way bigger than that on an XJ. A 2" will get you 31's, but tight. The first picture you posted is more like a 2" with 235s (almost 29s) if I had to guess.

If you really want 33s though a 3.5" Rubicon Express would do the trick. Or any other 4" suspension lift.

I fully expected to look in here and see someone suggest a body lift to him

To the OP, I'm not sure why you'd want to do that on that vehicle. Unless you're wanting to make it a trailer queen, I wouldn't start messing with a Cherokee of any sort in the lift dept.

My 96 Grand Cherokee fit 32s with no lift and minimal rub.

Adjust the backspace and there would have been none.

At least 3", maybe 4".

Check out jeepforum.com and ask there. They'll know for sure.

Just make sure it's a suspension lift

Actually I plan to bring it up to Birmingham for a weekend car. (Would doubt I would ever hit the interstate or even reach 150 miles a month.)

if you got no regard for fuel efficiency etc and just want something that feels cooler, go for it.
