Is the NCAA not on board with the now defunct BCS in shaping history?

Or is it because the power has shifted and nobody gives a crap what those self-serving old suits did for money this past decade ala old Soviet Union politics?

BCS strips USC’s 2004 title...The decision marks the first time a major-college football or men’s basketball championship has been vacated since the polls began.....In keeping with BCS and NCAA policy, the title will be vacated and not awarded to another school.

LINK

So why does the NCAA website list USC as the 2004 champ on their official website?

Strange - how that stripping has been almost whitewashed.

It also lists 31 co-champs...from 1869 up until the last co-champ year in 2003...which is less than I would have thought. It seems a consensus was usually reached and we didn't need to bitch and moan and create a made for $ TV (one single bowl game) while excluding all others and call it a championship.

are you that upset about a technicality? everyone who was alive knows the 2004 USC team earned(wasn't the "best team") the national title. who fricking cares

too add to your idea, wasn't the BCS implemented to get rid of the "eye test"? I'm so fricking tired of hearing about the "eye test". It shouldn't be a modeling contest. the 2012 ND team was completely over matched. everyone knew that going in. but going undefeated, with the schedule they played(which was made years in advance, without knowing USC would be under sanctions and OU wouldn't be a typical OU team) deserved to be in the title game

which is why playoffs are a necessity. I don't know the formula, but this idea of the "best team" NEEDING to win the title needs to fricking die. Pro sports and CBB have it right. Hell the FCS has it right. it isn't who looks the best. It's who wins the games when they count

By all means, let's destroy the only sport whose regular season means anything.

CBB gets it right? Are you fricking serious? Except for a two or three week period in March/April nobody gives a shite about college basketball - and that is almost totally driven by gambling. And, of course, the suits are even trying to ruin that by forcing "play-in" games onto the tournament.

Great thread. I had forgotten about USC almost having two titles, yet in reality having none.

Thanks, assuming that was the purpose of your thread, and it wasn't to bitch about something because your team didn't benefit from it.

Good god no

MLB playoffs have it right, CBB regular season is a joke, and one and done playoffs are never the best to crown champs.

I realize arguing logic with an LSU fan is a waste of energy, but here goes:

Let's take your argument that a playoff system makes the regular season more relevant to it's extreme. Let's say everyone makes the playoff, regular season record be damned. Are any regular season games even worth watching?

Now, let's take it to my argument's (the BCS as is makes the CFB regular season exciting and dramatic) logical extreme. When only two teams quaify for the championship game any loss can knock a team out. Thereby making every game important.

P.S. It's been almost 3 years. Get over it.
