Sure, the MS State game is only 1 loss, but there are reasons to be concerned. Giving 570 yards to the Bulldogs is concerning.

LSU's success, as a team, is highly correlated to the success of the defense.
Simply, when LSU's D plays well, LSU wins.
It's that simple.
Our defense is currently ranked #39 in Total Defense, making this the worst defense in Miles' tenure.
LSU is feeling the effects of early NFL Draft departures this season.
Gone is Zach Mettenburger 3,000-yards passing, Jeremy Hill's 1,400 yards rushing, ODB's 1,000 yards receiving, and Jarvis Landry's 1,000 yards receiving. Together, those four accounted for 78% of LSU's offense last season.

If you take the derivative of the total D with respect to time and then multiply that by the dWins/dt and divide by the square root of the poll rank to the one-third power….you will clearly see that all the cows are not in the barn……the 2014 season is just getting started and we don't know what else will happen….yet. Gooooooo Tigers!

It would be interesting to see offensive rankings folded into your pivot table. I recall many years that we won a lot of games with offense ranked in the bottom third. If you added offensive ranking it would make a strong case for strong D = wins.

1. The inability of fans to separate wishes and expectations.
2. Unreasonable expectations by fans of a young or inexperienced team.

The west teams have caught up to LSU and Alabama. Quit thinking they are going to win the national championship every year.

The real answer to the question:

"1. No team has been more decimated by early entrants into the NFL Draft than LSU. The Tigers depth at certain positions has taken a toll and it is clearly showing this season."

Interesting chart. I had always thought we won the most games when our defense sucked

when people say they want to run some more wide open spread stuff balanced out with our traditional power approach, i cant tell if theyre ranting out of frustration or if they think that's actually a plan. because its not a plan, its madness, they might as well just sit there and make barking sounds at the monitor.

I fear this may be the Achille's heal. I don't want to accept it. But it may be true. We need to start kicking some arse.
