What are the nicer places to stay in the Caribbean?

I have spent a week in St. Thomas (with a day trip to St. Johns), and had brief visits to a Cayman Island and Jamaica on a cruise. Both trips were many years ago.
I thought St. Thomas was ok, but we didn't venture outside the resort too much. Didn't care for Jamaica and I didn't see much of Cayman to form an opinion.
What are the nicer islands to visit these days?
Some preferences:
1. Kid friendly
2. Natives aren't pushy (one thing I hated about Jamaica)
3. Resort has nice pool
4. Great snorkeling
5. Good fishing
Thoughts? What would be the top three islands to consider?

Do you have to do a resort?
Orient Bay in St Maarten is nice and has lots of VRBO rentals available.

I think a resort, with a big arse pool and a few restaurants would be pretty convenient...

We stayed in Punta Cana, DR in June. Beaches and water are beautiful. We stayed at the Bahia Principe on one of those all inclusive deals and are eager to go back.

The wife and I went to Turks and Caicos (seven stars resort) without the kids. But, seemed to be an excellent spot for kids (we plan to go back with them). Beautiful water, beautiful beach , locals were not pushy at all, food was very good and the snorkeling was fantastic. Didn't go fishing though.

Gotcha.
I really liked St Maarten the best of the few islands I've been to. You can take day trips to St Barths and Anguilla from there too.
St Thomas was very meh. IMO
Barbados is a damn third world country.
Agree about Jamaica.
Bahamas were meh outside of Atlantis.

USVI are nice all-around, Barbados is nice but far to get to and expensive. Turk & Caicos is near, kid-friendly but expensive. St. Kitts, expensive and hard to get in and out of but nice. with kids I'd go to Costa Rica on the Pacific side, either in Guancaste or around Quepos.
Quepos = Best fishing and low key and stunning natural setting.

I am in med school at St. Maarten right now
I have no idea about that but I would imagine the resorts are when it is in season and I am sure the kids would love to watch the planes on maho beach.
natives here are nice just don't be alone after dark
check
I haven't had a chance to go yet but my MCB professor says there is good fishing but the charters will keep your fish unless you specify beforehand.

St. John, St Martin (Maarten), and St Kitts are some of my favorites. I think I liked Antigua a lot as well.
Sounds like you should Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and Puerto Rico.
