Spinoff: Who here has been to rehab?

I went to one in Navarre, three of my cousins went to Betty Ford, I have a buddy that went to one in Hattiesburg, and his little sister went to one in New Orleans.
It seems like it is the new thing to do nowadays. I hadn't ever heard of people going to rehab growing up, but now I meet people all of the time who know someone who has been.
I went for drinking, but I was definitely the minority of people under 30. 95% of them were there for pills. I learned that you can smoke pills, inject pills, and that pill heads basically are all pharmacists. I thought it was ridiculous that all we did was talk about drugs/drinking the entire time.

frick rehab, be a man, detox on your own and bring your arse to an AA meeting. That's how I did it. Looking back I should have spent a couple of weeks at the Baton Rouge Detox. DT's were an absoulte mother fricker.

I went to CORE in Shreveport for a gambling addiction 4 years ago. Haven't placed a bet in 1497 days.

I initially went to get out of jail, but is was good to not drink for that 60 days. I was partying hard every night, but I still went to work and school every day. My damn problem was that I pissed everyone off all of the time and kept getting arrested. I didn't have to detox, just recover from a hangover in jail the day after I got arrested.
AA meetings annoy me, so I just did it on my own when I left. I don't give a shite about sober dates or hearing people whine, so it is just a PITA. I still binge drink from time to time, but it is only one or two nights a month and I have pretty much stopped going to bars at this point, and I'm okay with that since I don't have any kids to take care of or major responsibilities Saturday mornings
What I got out of it was to almost completely curb my drinking, and I have stayed at that level for the past 4 years.

Yeah..and that's what the problem is.. you end up making new drug friends for when you get out. Patients hang around smoking cigarettes with each other all day.

I was honestly annoyed that all we did all day was talk about drugs and listen to people bitch about not having enough Suboxone and anti-depressants. After a couple of days of that, I was ready to leave, but figured since I lost my job and had to drop out of school already, I might as well stay for a bit.

While I'm glad people are able to recover from whatever addiction they have, it is really lame when they start preaching about sobriety like they are all of a sudden some expert life coach. Newsflash: just because you couldn't handle partying doesn't mean others can't.
