imo, the current state of our football team...

DEFENSE: real weak up the middle. seems to be a
lack of talent at DT and MLB

OFFENSE: OL is lost. blocking by other positions
weak. therefore, we can't run the ball.
QB has no touch on short to mid passes,
can't execute screens or quick slants

PLAY CALLING: nothing works. can't run, can't
run the kind of plays to get
the opposing defense off your arse.
passing game not good enough to
sustain drives

I have never seen an LSU team like this. I believe things will improve IF we get the blocking thing down. that and only that will give us a fighting chance to sustain drives. we are probably stuck with the weak defense up the middle. ONE outstanding DT and ONE damn good MLB can make an astounding improvement.

It's an easy fix really. 8 WR's, a center, Harris, and Fournette.

It's almost unfair.

This problem will fix itself with experience. Let the young guys grow up. Everyone was saying the sky was falling back in 08 and 09 when all those guys were freshman that were juniors and seniors on that 11 team was incredible. If you didnt expect some growing pains I dont know what to tell you. This team will be exponentially better come November than it is today.

This one is easy. We just need more discipline. The huge holes are opening because our interior linemen are being over-aggressive. They need to stay home, plug their gaps, and do their jobs.

They are young and overeager and they want to get to the football. Unfortunately this has led to lack of leverage in the hole and over-pursuit in the backfield.

Much harder to fix. But if we can open up the playbook a bit on first down that would work wonders in terms of making the run blocking a bit easier.

Personally, I also think Harris just gives you more options out there, and opens up the D more than Jennings.

Well you can go with the theory that a lost (especially this early in the year) can do some good to this kind of team. And by this kind of team I mean play calling choices with the personnel you have in.

It was apparent that change will be necessary to have a successful season. Will we be experienced enough to successfully execute that change? Well NM St SHOULD BE an experimental representation of that.

Till then... we will always be in the dark when it comes to the operation of Miles and the possibility of changing the scheme.

Difference is those 08 and 09 teams beat Mississippi State. Here's a scenario for ya: how many more elite recruiting classes to we add to this 2016 juggernaut if we have a losing season this year?

I meant recently.

MOST of my fandom life (almost 50 yrs) we've had good DL and LB's. the offense? well ok.

SOlving a problem require objective analysis. Simply stating it is exectuion or inexperience is not sufficient.

You must find the systemic issue that has plaqued LSU with unexplainalbe losses- be it Ole Miss, Alabama NC, MS St or several other games.

It rears its ugly head from time to time. We change coaches and players but the issue is still there. That indicates the problem is systemic.

With systemic problems you look for the common denominator.

SO what do you think is the common denominator?

Chad Jones single handedly beat them. We should have lost that game in Starkville. I believe that game we couldnt run on them either just like the other night. And this MSU team would destroy those 08 and 09 State teams

While it would make me feel better to think that this MS State team is Auburn with Cam N it is not. We got beat by a team we could have beaten by simply playing a vertical game. The game plan was flawed because CLM does not want a two QB system. If he is not going to invest in Harris then he has to play two QB's and if not we will lose 5 games this year.

MS State will get exposed by the gauntlet

I agree it requires objective analysis but it damn sure could be lack of execution and or inexperience. an "objective" analysis just very well might discover this so if you eliminate it really isn't objective is it?

you are trying to put this into a mathematic equation man. that's not the way football works. it is INDEED about people. i'm sure you are looking for me to say our systemic problems are a result of not running the spread offense.

I say you are preaching objectivity but really just want YOUR WAY, objective or not.

Nothing particularly new, but…

quote:

DEFENSE: real weak up the middle. seems to be a
lack of talent at DT and MLB

Beckwith in for Welter. DT not as bad as some say. Try younger guys, e.g., Neal. Other defenses changes: more Adams/Jefferson, less Martin. More Debo.

quote:

OFFENSE: OL is lost. blocking by other positions
weak. therefore, we can't run the ball.

Simplify blocking schemes. Spread it out a bit (see below).

quote:

QB has no touch on short to mid passes,
can't execute screens or quick slants

I like Jennings, but more Harris

quote:

PLAY CALLING: nothing works. can't run, can't
run the kind of plays to get
the opposing defense off your arse.
passing game not good enough to
sustain drives

Again, more Harris. More shotgun/pistol. Spread them out. We can still run out of that formation. Also, more Fournette less Jennings running the ball.
