When I heard the news I thought: "Why not wait till after mid-terms. That's when you normally see people retire.

Then I realized..the new AG must be approved by the Senate. The Dems control the Senate and Holder's replacement will be approved no matter how crappy he/she is.

If Holder waits then the GOP might control Senate and Obama could not nominate another radical leftist.

This means 2 things are true:

a. Obama is going to nominate another Holder clone.
b. Obama is afraid that the GOP will win the Senate despite MSM reports that the Dems will hold on.

That's exactly what is at play here.

I was just thinking that. I'm sure the Dems in the Senate realize that speed is of utmost importance. Obama has to put a name out there immediately and the Dems will have to develop procedural moves to stop any attempt at GOP stalling till after Nov elections.

I'm not sure it's that big of a deal. A lot of vulnerable democrat candidates aren't going to stick their necks out.

That said.. It is starting getting late to make new campaign commercials...

Not sure what you mean. We're not talking about changing the course of the election. We're talking about a speedy replacement of Holder to make the election moot.

It will be a woman for sure that way he can have republicans on record voting against her and play up the War On Women narrative.

Obama has internal polling info that the MSM does not put out. So, the move to ditch Holder = the MSM rosy outlook for the Dem senate race is a lie. IE, if Obama had to bet money on the senate race he would put it on the GOP...so he's not waiting for it.

Pretty sure the AG under Reid's Nuclear Option can be confirmed with simple majority. Only thing not is Supreme Court Justices.

And there is a lame duck session after the mid-terms.

Obama may just go ahead and appoint a career DOJ to fill the office.

He does what he wants anyway.

The Senate is in adjournment until October 15, 2014. LINK Obama will likely use the recess appointment procedures while the Senate is not in session. Once the Senate comes back into session I expect the Democrats will try and confirm whomever Obama appointed while they hold the majority. The Republicans can't filibuster nominations, but they should be able to make an issue over hearings for the nominee. It will be interesting to hear Democrat justification for expedited hearings on the appointment. I would think they would be somewhat cautious since this could turn into a serious campaign issue so close to the election.

Will Mary Landrieu, and the other Senators in competitive races, be willing to give their opponents a last minute issue with which to attack?

I'm thinking they are going to PIZZED about this.

Then again Obama seems to hate Congress...even many in his own party.

May be a way to purge the moderate democrats?

Ooooh, Mary could use this to her advantage. She could come out and strongly oppose the Obama nominee to show that she is not tied to the hip to Obama which is Cassidy's whole campaign.
