Defensive end Trevon Randle has been dismissed from the University of Houston football program for a violation of team policy, an athletic spokesman confirmed Friday.

Randle, who never played at down for the Cougars, transferred from LSU two years ago. He was forced to sit out the 2012 season per NCAA transfer rules and missed last season for what coach Tony Levine said were “things we’ve got to work through.”

UH did not disclose any further information about Randle’s dismissal.

Randle was listed as fourth-string defensive end at the end of spring practice.

The Cougars return their top six defensive ends from last season: Eric Braswell, Cameron Malveaux, Eric Eiland, Tyus Bowser, Chauntez Jackson and Trevor Harris.

Randle, who played at Clear Springs, was rated as the eighth-best outside linebacker in the nation in 2011 by recruiting service Scout.com.

Interesting that he was playing DE

Wow. I hadn't heard that name in a while. Sad to see his career never really started. I remember saying how good this kid was going to be simply because he was the KR for his HS team!

Thanks for the topic. I really liked what I saw on the field in his HS highlights. Even in cherry-picked plays, you can tell a "sideline to sideline" guy. But of course that tells you nothing about his character, so...

I went and watched a game his senior year and reported back here. Was really instinctual and I thought he'd end up being a great player, but what I really came away from the game thinking was I wish we had gotten his teammate Howard Matthews. I thought he was going to be a stud for A&M. I think he starts now but is pretty meh.

Really talented guy. IIRC he returned kicks for his high school team. He had the chance to be a really good player. Too bad he couldn't keep it together.

Very very meh haha Everytime their opponents make a big play, its Howard Matthews getting burned. Poor guy.
