Need help with new home office computer, please.

I have been trying to figure this out for a day or so then realized that I have no utilized my best resource, TigerDroppings.
I am moving my office from a building in BR to my home and need to setup a home office. I will be tracking lots of reports on Excel, Word, more emails than I can count, and a propriety graphing program designed by my company. None of this requires more than a cell phone. However, I will need to monitor 9 total stores through our Remote Access and Team Viewer. Sometimes several different stores at once. This is what bogs everything down.
We have an IT department but I was told to get my equipment and have them set it up (IE, get new hardware).
These are the computers that I am looking at:
i7
i5
Then I thought, why not an All-in-one, if it can handle it.
AIO 1
AIO 2
AIO 3
I do not know the specs of the computer that I currently have but its not doing the job well. I cannot view more than a few cameras at once and then Outlook is impossible.
Sorry that I have no more info, but I appreciate any help yall can give.

How fast is your home internet? It could easily be a networking issue.

Now that you mention it, I have not ran a speed test at work. I just got 21.45 DL and 6.68 UL at home.

There are lots of options. Tell me more about each location and what you need to remote into. How many remote computers do you want simultaneous control over? How many do you want to view at one time? What kind of bandwidth do you have for download and upload?
*edit: just saw your post re: bandwidth
Are cameras being encoded and streamed out as H.264 rtsp streams or are they proprietary encoding algorithms requiring you to have a VMS?

And when you say Outlook is impossible, is the program slow or is it impossible to send/receive mail?

Remote into our own finance program and cameras. Each location currently has 8 cameras in 1080p. Need to be able to remote view cameras, program, and run Outlook at once. Also, need to remote view as many cameras as possible, 3 at once would be nice.

Answered above.
Sorry for not giving the best answers.

Very slow to send a receive emails. Not many video files sent but lots of PDFs and Excel reports. 20mb is not unusual.

Im glad you know, because I sure as hell dont. I do know that we are supposed to have 25mbps DL at my current office.

While your cameras may be 1080p, they are also set to a particular frame rate. I have an encoder that can encode up to 1200p and can operate at bandwiths as high as 10 Mbps or down to 96 kbps at 1 frame per second. The encoding, your available bandwidth and whether or not you are using a decoder card or using the computer's processor are the determining actors in what you can do and how many windows of streaming cameras you can successfully subscribe to at once.

So, if you had to pick a computer...

Sounds like a VMS or a PSIM to me.

I design network operations centers, security ops centers, remote drilling ops centers and emergency operations centers, as well as military command and control. If you want to manage and control, that's one thing. If you want to simply monitor and report, that's another. What, exactly, would be optimal for you and what would be the acceptable minimum for you? Tell me your workflow and I can tell you how to compress that into highly useable work environments.

Not happy about this, then read the rest and became happy.

Nope. No. Nope.

That's all I want and need to do. I need to monitor a total of 9-13 locations throughout the day. I could get by doing it one by one but a minimum of 3 at a time would be very nice.
Again, We have an IT dept but they recycle shite that should have been trashed years ago. This will be a new office and owners want new equipment.

Or, his current computer is full of malware, his cache needs to cleared or he has too many processes running in the background.

quote:Possibly. I was thinking as simply as AD using the IP/DN of each store to prioritize that traffic to the office. And now that he's at home on a different network, it would be interesting to know if he uses a VPN. We don't know much about the setup.

So I'll go back to the cameras. Define how those cameras are being used now. Does each site have a controller that manages the cameras? How are you currently viewing these cameras?
If the camera streams are Industry standard, you can use VLC or Quicktime, but this places an enormous strain on processing resources. A better way is to use an outboard decoder, or two, or three to bring in multiple streams outide of your computer's processor. So then, how do you view those streams? You use a multiviewer. So you can view up to 4 1080p images at once. There are systems that can allow up to 12 computers or videos to be viewed at once and in any variety of window sizes and positions.

Team Viewer to access the store server. Access camera program that way from central office. Name of camera program escapes me right now.

A powerful i7 machine attached to two monitors is what you need. I doubt bandwidth will be a problem.
