Did anyone else notice that the slot receivers were hardly covered for most of the game. The outside of the hash marks were wide open. Linebackers for Miss state were cheating so far inside to stop the run, that it looked like nobody was guarding them on most of the plays. Yet we pound the rock, down 17-0

Routinely play 12-13 yards off of Quinn

it's one of those adjustments that were never made.

just kept on trying to pound it into stacked boxes.

The offensive game plan sucked all around, but I'm not so sure that Jennings could've gotten the ball to our receivers since the OL couldn't block worth a damn.

We have no short to intermediate passing game. Jennings throws a rainbow. Great for the deep ball, but not going to go hash mark to hash mark.

Game plan? I have been wanting to mention the lack of a game plan. We don't ever seem to exploit the weaknesses of our opponents. To me it just seems like we run the same plays, thinking they'll work against any team. Different opponents call for different game plans. I know Cam Cameron is aware of this based on his NFL experience. Of course teams have base plays, but not using more open sets earlier in the game is not smart. Ground and pound works if you have defense that doesn't give up umpteen yards rushing.

from where i was sitting, it was clear that jennings had tunnel vision on called run plays and never even bothered to scan the defense to see what you are talking about. we should have abused the perimeter mercilessly in that game given their coverage tendencies especially as it pertains to the slot man.

probably because aj is not allowed to check in and out of plays at this point. that, friends, is the difference between a winning and losing offense. lescuffs [on]off

Rewatch the game. Lsu didn't run I to as many stacked boxes as you probably think they did.

In fact they ran plenty of pro style pass plays and we had receivers open all over the field.

The issue is aj does not see the open receivers. He looks at one receiver and since the oline has not given him much time he bolts if it's not there or pulls it down. He hesitates to put it up into traffic (because he knows his arm strength isn't there and he's scared of throwing interceptions) and doesn't make it to the second or third option very often.

I saw Dickson wide open 4 to 5 times, Saw Diarse wide open a lot, Saw Quinn open a lot, but aj starts looking at Dural first and if not there he gets panicky. That's one reason I would like to see Harris step up. He actually has the arm strength to try to throw into tight windows.

You have to use the middle of the field and go b/w the hashes to open up the box, if you're going to continue using FBs and TEs exclusively.

For those of us that enjoy breaking down what actually happens reviewing the DVR, we are seeing déjà vu. It's very frustrating to say the least.

It's taken 10 yrs to develop a system offensively that allows us to avoid delay of game and wasted TOs. Everyone has to admit that the level of disorganization offensively has drastically improved. And that's with freshman personnel.

You know why? Because our QBs ran more complex systems in high school than what we're trying to win SEC games with now. After having a prolific passer using the whole field in a system that actually had route stems and reads, we now can't even read the DE on a read option.

I didn't want to relive the '08 season again this year, but it's staring us right in the face. One thing that season did was affect change. And that is sorely needed now.

I was just about to talk about this. Wondering if our coaches don't have faith in jennings making a quick, strong, accurate throw. Hell with the room they were giving quinn we could've just snapped the ball and slung it out to him on perimeter and he'd have gained n easy 5

It's always funny how fans can see so many wide-open receivers, but QBs somehow can't don't you think?. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that it's a juuuuuust at bit easier to see open receivers from sec. 301, row 53, or through ESPN's wide angle cameras. It's whole different animal when your sitting in the pocket and have to make split-second decisions with defensive players bearing down on you from all angles. At every level of football many times the decision as to what WR the QB is going to is made before the snap.

LSU does very little to help their QBs out. Most pass routes are deep and outside of the hashes. Those can be tough passes. We see very few slants, slot guys or TEs dragging across the middle, or even plays out of a bunch set where the routes force the QB to read one guy. When your OL can't hold the pocket, it's hard to let a deep pass develop.

With the way LSU chooses to execute it's passing game, Harris would struggle just as much as Jennings. Don't be fooled by the 4 wide formation at the end of the MSU game. That's NOT how LSU wants to attack teams through the air. It was done strictly out of necessity.
