at the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano.
While I don't think there's any such thing as the "best guitarist in the world," and that the most we can do is talk about the best guitarists in particular styles of music, I will say that any discussion of the best pop/jazz/rock/blues guitarists of the last 30-40 years needs to include Larry Carlton. The guy is just an incredible player.

was he playing through one of his dumbles or bludotones? one of the most tasteful guitarist of the day. you'll never hear him overplay. his "deep into it" record is one of my favorites.

I really got into him when he was recording on the GRP label (Grusin-Rosen Productions) in the mid to late '80's. He is an exceptional guitarist that has backed too numerous to mention A-list musicians.
...and every few months I get into my Sunday morning Dave Grusin, Crusaders, Larry Carlton kick.

I was in the first row, just to Carlton's right, about 10 feet from his mic. I was mesmerized by the chords he was playing.
