When you vacation, what's your goal? Nothing is worse than taking time off from work for vacation when you are stuck doing something you don't want to do. So, when you go vacationing, what's your goal?

Do you want to relax...sit on the beach...enjoy a beer and a book? Maybe get a massage and just relax?

Do you want to go to a fast pasted urban area? Explore the city? Shop, drink, and dine at some nice, high-end restaurants? Stay out late and enjoy the fast-paced city?

Do you want to go exercise in the outdoors? Hike, ski, camp out and enjoy the wilderness?

If it's to the beach, I'm not doing anything but drinking and sitting on arse.

If I'm going to some destination, I want to do all the things.

all of the above?

I want to go to a place where I can explore the outdoors, relax with a good beer and book with an amazing view, and shop and dine at good restaurants.

I'm not a huge fan of just sitting around doing nothing. I'm also not a fan of shopping. I want to be doing something at least 80% of the time. Museums, landmarks, natural wilderness, etc.

I need a good mix. I can't spend a whole week just sitting on a beach. A day, maybe two and I'm good. I love history/culture and want to be mentally stimulated.

If I am going somewhere fast paced like a city it usually revolves around an event. A wedding/football game/bachelor party. I can never really relax in a downtown hotel.

If it was a REAL vacation, I am going somewhere to chill out. Mountains/Beach.

Went to Aizona for a wedding. stayed a couple days at the Camelback inn. easy to relax there.

This.

I enjoy the occasional tropical vacation, but there's too much of the world I want to see to waste money on many of those types of trips.

One thing I can't stand is someone who wants to "relax" by sitting in the hotel/condo watching TV.

Me and the wife used to vacay in big international cities and run ourselves raged trying to take it all in. We'd get up early for tours and shite, and have dinner reservations each night. We'd usually end up completely exhausted by the end of our trip.

For the last few years we've taken a different approach and been doing cruises and beach getaways where all we do is relax, eat and drink without much in the way of "plans" for each day.

I prefer the latter.

I want to explore and do shite; hike, kayak, fish, see incredible places.

Screw a city or a beach. Give me mountains.

We go to the Caribbean a lot but we do not sit around on the beach for a week. While we do spend some time on the beach we do a lot of activities. There is no cooking. We go out to dinner every day.

Snorkeling, zip lining, chartering boats to go to other islands, exploring, etc. Those are the type of activities that we do.

Depends; though I usually try to remove other people from the equation, since they just ruin it.

That.

I push myself harder on my vacations than I do around here. While I go hard and stay busy it is still relaxing to me.

Indeed. I'm a big beach bum, though. I can sit on a beach all damn day for days on end. Sorry not sorry about that.

But if I do go to a city or a location, I want to do everything that's interesting or new or entertaining. Eat, drink, walk, bang, see stuff...I'll do most anything except jump out of a perfectly good airplane.
