I've played the game for several years now, mostly Ultimate Team or the online club seasons. I am decent, but by no means an expert. I'm curious as to how you guys prefer to set up your controller settings: Assisted, Semi, or all the way Manual? I've tried going manual a couple times, but I just don't have the patience, desire, or time I would need to invest to master the game to that extent.

I mix and match, but here are the settings I use most often:

Auto Switching: Air Balls
Auto Switching Move Assistance: High
Passing: Assisted
Pass Power Assistance: Off
Through Balls: Assisted
Shooting: Semi
Crossing: Semi
Lob Pass: Assisted
GK: Semi
Analog Sprint: Off
Defending: Tactical Defending
Game Speed: Normal

Also, any tips on which combinations of settings might work best for an above average, but not great player like myself would be greatly appreciated.

You don't have the time?
Take two hours out of your busy schedule and learn to play on full manual. I made the switch on '11. Sure,I still have the occasional shot that leads to a throw-in,but overall I think it's the only way to play. All settings off or set to manual, analog sprint on,tactical defending.

Take the time to learn manual passing. You won't regret it. I have everything on manual except player switching on air balls and shooting I have on semi because my fingers get stupid and I blow some easy chances on manual when the computer isn't sure which player I'm going to shoot with and switches me a bunch on balls across. Manual passing opens up so much more of the game though. The ability to play the ball into space instead of right at a teammate or at whatever angle the computer wants to take you on through balls makes a huge difference. You don't realize how limited you are with auto passing until you've used manual. And it doesn't take nearly as long to learn as you'd think. You'll be pretty awful the first game or two, but you should be able to complete most simple passes after that, then the chances will start coming as you get more comfortable. I'd say that within 5 or 6 games it'll feel like second nature and you'll never again have to deal with the annoyance of an opportunity being blown because the computer picked the wrong guy for you to pass to. And the feeling of perfectly weighting a through ball is awesome. Plus, it'll just make you a better human being in general.

I lower difficulty and go all manual. Some of the goals you score is stuff you never see on assisted. It makes if play more like a real game of soccer imho.

I don't play online fwiw
