Well, let's just say we've owned a chihuahua for just over a year. Last night we welcomed a 2nd dog into the family.

It hasn't bricked it, but gatdamn did it come close...

I have the iPad 3, and I notice things are lagging a good bit with iOS 8. Definitely not as smooth as on my iPhone 5.

I read somewhere if you hurry you can still roll it back to 7.

The initial reviews on the 4s suggest it's pretty slow on older hardware. Hopefully they'll fix that in a maintenance release soon.

It's definitely slowed some things down on my iPad 2 as well. I actually restarted it a few times last night to see if that would help...not so much. But, it seemed to me that Safari was running faster last night. Not sure if I was imagining things or if it actually was.
