How fricked up is this?

quote:

Sergey Kirilov, 26, announced he would commit suicide on a social network
He said that anyone who wanted to see it could link to him on Skype
Dozens of spectators urged him on, while only one tried to stop him
One said to him: 'Come on, are you ready yet? Go on - do it.'
Another said: 'If a man says he's going to do something, he needs to do it.'

Deindividualization is actually a common thing.

It's the biggest reason police will "quarantine" a suicide type situation.

You Are Not So Smart - Deindividualization

In 2008, a 17-year old man jumped from the top of a parking garage in England after 300 or so people chanted for him to go for it. Some took photos and recorded video before, during and after. Afterward, the crowd dispersed, the strange spell broken. The taunters walked away wondering what came over them. The other onlookers vented their disgust into social media.

Sounds like a cop out to cover the fact that at so many people today have lost all sense of humanity and compassion. I'm sorry but if you come across a mob of people urging a guy to kill himself are you really just going to blindly join along?

I guess you're one of those who ignore the bystander effect too. your mind is just completely above proven psychological effects, right?

Several people have killed themselves on justintv as well. And I swear I remember an older dude (thought he was Russian for some reason) hanging himself live on social media/video with people egging him on and saying he wouldn't do it.

People are disgusting pieces of shite to egg that guy on.

if someone is going to kill themselves on Skype they are going to want people to talk about it.

He could have went in a closet or bathroom or the woods, but no, let's social media it up. In death he will be more known than in life.

I don't know if I'd egg him on, but honestly I'd prob sit back and watch. Not everyday you see a suicide.

That's total bullshite. If you see a guy about to kill himself are you really going to start egging him on just because there's other's there already doing this? Is your mind really that weak?

you realize this hive mind is the exact same thing you cry about when a bunch of people downvote you, right? it doesn't matter what the situation is, people will conform to the group, not the individual.
