Speaking of gun laws, you can't open carry a pistol in Texas can you?

What about having it in your bag/truck on the drive over?

quote:

There is no legal statute specifically prohibiting the carry of a firearm other than a handgun (Pre-1899 black powder weapons and replicas of such are not legally firearms in Texas [3]) . However if the firearm is displayed in a manner "calculated to cause alarm." Then it is "disorderly conduct" (which defines an offense, in part, as "displaying a firearm or other deadly weapon in a public place in a manner calculated to cause alarm"). Open carry of a handgun in public is generally illegal in Texas due to PC 46.02; exceptions are detailed in that section and in 46.15, and include when the carrier is on property he/she owns or has lawful control over, while legally hunting, or while participating in some gun-related public event such as a gun show. A permit to carry concealed is thus required to carry a handgun in public.

I keep mine in my truck at all times when I am in it.

If I have my LA CCL, would I need to get one for Tx or will they honor my LA?

LSP.ORG reciprocity:

And for the OP, check Handgunlaw.us for Texas laws. I'm about 90% sure as long as it is concealed in your vehicle (glovebox, console, etc.) then it is legal.

LSP needs to update their map.
Nevada no longer honors Louisiana CCL.
New Mexico is now honoring Louisiana CCL.

From the horse's mouth aka New Mexico DPS

We are going over for a dove hunt with the property owner, and no, I do not have a concealed carry license.

I'm leaving in the morning headed to south Texas for a few days of dove hunting. I will be carrying my pistol at all times, did it last year with no problems. Went thru border check points everyday and had no issues. With all this ISIS talk, I'm gonna be locked and loaded with more than just some #8 shot!!

I also do not have my CCL.
