A. Is he going to play tonight and get meaningful minutes?

B. Is he done being a stud in this league? NFL RB shelf life is alarmingly short and he's been injured and unspectacular the last 2 years. I took a risk grabbing him, but now my RBs are terrible.

Rainey looks to be here to stay.

Not sure he will ever be a bell cow again.

But I think he can get his form back.

Lovie seems set on a full blown RBBC, which is the new norm in the NFL anyway so it shouldn't come as a surprise. Plus Rainey did it well last year and did it well this past Sunday so he's not going anywhere.

If you take out his game against Oakland he really wasn't that special his rookie season. Caught a lot of checkdowns but as a runner his stats were heavily inflated by feasting on the stinky Raiders.

In addition to what others said, I would expect Charles Sims to get some carries when he comes off IR-DTR. They seemed to be really be high on him during camp.

The Tampa Bay Times says Bobby Rainey will start Thursday's game against the Falcons.

quote:

"Not just because of Doug Martin's knee. Coaches really like [Rainey]," said beat writer Rick Stroud. To be clear, this looks like educated speculation, not sourced reporting. Coach Lovie Smith has declined to name a starter, only saying he wants to use a committee. But it's not that far-fetched to think that the Bucs want to ride Rainey's hot hand after he put up 174 total yards on 25 touches in Week 2. It's a messy situation, but at this point we'd give Rainey the edge as the better flex play in this cake matchup.

Tampa Bay Rb curse.

Cadillac Williams and LeGarrette Blount both had 1k rushing in their rookie season then started to nose dive. Seems Dougie is following in their footsteps.

I get the hate, but why post opinions without looking at facts?

1,900 total yards as a rookie
He was on pace for 1,400 yards before injury in 2013

Gets hurt in the first game of the season (same game Rainey fumbles away the game to make TB lose)

1400 is a lot less than 1900. That was before his injury. His rookie season was incredible but I don't see him returning to that form.

1,400 would have put him in the top 7 of RBs in 2013

Your point?

Wat?

1200 yards rushing in 15 games is a very good year. Then add another 450 yards recieving.

Over 1600 yards total in 15 games is special imo.

My point is that 1400 total yards would not be 2012 form. Last year pre injury, he averaged 9.7 points per game. 2012 he averaged 16.5. Take out the Raiders game and he still averaged 14.2. To say he was in 2012 form last year is a stretch.

I get folks like to cling on that stuff, but consider some of the match ups he faced and the overall direction of the organization. Bucs were awful early and got better as the season went on.

I mean Bobby Rainey and Mike James ran wild in the second half of the season because TB actual resembled a team.

Martin is by no means elite, but he's a solid RB
