I'll just say between Bienville, Lincoln, and Ouachita parish. Sorry, don't wanna give up to much info, since I still live in same parish. I try to stay somewhat discreet on here

I understand.
Another tidbit of information- I know that lease bonuses are taxed at something like 40%. I would imagine that royalties are somewhere in the same neighborhood, so if/when you claim it, I'd set about half aside for Uncle Sam.

Yea, wasn't sure how taxes would work. I'm in a low tax bracket. I had planned on setting aside 35-40% but still wanna put 6 months back for emergency fund. I'm pretty frugal anyways

this is incorrect. if he was unleased, he gets paid upon payout.
the first step i would take is call the company who deposited the check. they keep records of ownership and may be willing to provide you with what they have. it behooves them (greatly) to not screw up and pay the wrong person, so they probably know something you don't. if the wells are paying out big enough to net you $40k, you can bet they have title opinions on the unit. if you are still worried after talking with them, consult an attorney. there are a ton of them who represent landowners in that area.

I stand corrected. I should have known better.
