Cliff Notes version: Nobody was expecting him to be a starter from day 1. They all saw him as a project.

For example:
quote:

Weaknesses Has relatively small hands. Not especially strong for his size. Stiff hips. Is not a quick-twitch athlete and struggles to mirror sudden receivers. Lacks elite top-end speed (long-strider). Green positional instincts. Picks and chooses his spots to be physical -- inconsistent run defender. Has tweener traits. Football aptitude is lacking -- could struggle to grasp and execute complex assignments. Will be a 24-year-old rookie.

They could have just shortened it to:

Weaknesses Is not currently good at football

These things get kind of crazy if you really read them.

When you read the weaknesses by themselves, they make it seem like this player has no place in football at any level.

My friends and I laugh about these all the time. When you read them you wonder how the guy is even able to play football.

Weaknesses:
- has trouble running
- wanders the field aimlessly
- poor tackling
- poor vision
- poor football IQ

Projection: Top 15 pick

predraft snippets are always dumb.

PRO's:
Good tackler
Plays Tough

Con's:
Lacks physicality
Takes wrong angles at times

So basically coulda written "I do not want to be wrong"

NFL.com's profile on Brandin Cooks says he lacks elite speed.

My brain can't handle the sheer fail in that assessment. Speed doesn't get much more elite than Cooks.

WEAKNESSES Size is just adequate -- is small-framed and lacks ideal length and bulk. Vulnerable to the jam and reroute. Relatively small catch radius. Has small hands and double-catches some throws. Lacks elite, blazing speed to run by NFL corners and safeties. Will struggle to play "above the rim" at the next level. Was not an impactful punt returner. Limited run strength. Poor blocker.

"At 190 pounds, he was able to make a lot of people miss (while playing for Oregon State). At the NFL Scouting Combine, he ran a 4.33 40-yard dash (the second-fastest among all performers). This is a guy who catches the ball easily." -- Mike Mayock

They left out "can't be any worse as a rookie than veteran Patrick Robinson" in that analysis.

NFL.com:
quote:

Robinson possesses the ideal size and straight line speed coveted in today’s starting corners. He anticipates break points well and jumps routes. Robinson’s a competitive defender with great ball skills

quote:

Only has average play speed for the position and doesn’t have as much closing burst and quickness when transitioning as you’d like to see. There are some durability questions as he dealt with multiple injuries in college. Only an average technician who would benefit from some coaching up at the next level.

CBSSports:
quote:

Good instincts for the position. Reads the receiver and is athletic enough to mirror routes.
quote:

Built to play press coverage. Aggressive use of hands at the line of scrimmage helps knock receivers off routes. Good route recognition for zone coverage. Reads the quarterback's eyes and closes quickly. Needs to improve his discipline in zone coverage, as he too often trusts his eyes and can wander out of his zone.
quote:

Shows a legitimate second gear to recover if beaten initially. Former wide receiver with natural hands for the interception. Competes well for the jump ball.

Walterfootball:
quote:

Robinson has been highly rated solely based on his height, weight, and 40 time. I see a corner who refuses to play the run, but then he turns around and isn't as dominant in pass coverage as I want him to be. There are rumors that he didn't play hard as a senior to avoid injury - this really concerns me. I question how much Robinson loves the game. Robinson carries a third-round grade, and he'll likely come off the board anywhere from very late first round to early third round.

After reading their analysis of Patrick Robinson, it gives me hope for SJB because they clearly have no fricking clue what they're talking about.

I'd say Walterfootball was pretty spot on. A 3rd round pick who went in the 1st round because a team fell in love with his size and athleticism.

Robinson has played well for us in the past.

I think it's telling that Lewis has played like shite so far, as well.
