Anyone have any ideas? I have a slow cooker large enough for this. I have a brined bird ready to go, but my son has baseball practice tonight. The only recipes I can find essentially just say rub it and stick it in for 6-8 hours on a bed of onions.

For fresh veggies i have cauliflower and string beans. Was thinking about putting that all in there and setting chicken on top? Think cauliflower might turn to mush.

I find whole chicken in a crock pot all day gets too tender and most of the veggies basically turn to crap, except carrots and potatoes. I've done it a few times and never been all that happy with it. The chicken falls apart before you can even get it out of the crock pot. You might be able to do it on high for a shorter time and avoid the puddle of chicken.

I've stuffed one with onions garlic and bell pepper and rubbed it with Tonys or slap ya mamma and it ended up coming out pretty good.

I think you'd be better off in the oven, but I've never tried slow cooked chicken before.

Put I in over the onions. Put the green beans and cauliflower on top when you get home from practice since they only take about 15 minutes.

By the time your kid showers from practice the vegetables will be ready.

I only use a whole chicken in the slow cooker if I'm making chicken & dumplings, then it doesn't matter that it's cooked to mush...

I would say no.

But it's worth a try, I guess.

Bone-in chicken falls apart in the crock pot.

If you are ok with that, go ahead.

How big? Can roast a 4-5 lb bird in the oven in about 1.5 hours. 425 for the first 15 minutes, lower to 375 and roast until done. Comes out awesome.

it works well, the trick is to keep it out of the liquid. Make some big balls of aluminum foil and put them in the bottom, rest the chicken on top and add a little liquid and seasonings in the bottom
