El-P and Killer Mike are funny dudes:

For example! $75,000 gets you the “I’m On The List, a-hole” package, which gets you and a friend guest list privileges and backstage access for up to 10 Run The Jewels shows: “We will pretend to like you and will introduce you to our friends as our ’friend’. Run The Jewels requires a half an hour before stage time to not have to deal with you and your fricking yammering in order to do our pre show stretches, vocal warm ups and crying.” Other, more expensive packages include the offer to fly to your city and show up at your kid’s show-and-tell during school, the offer to housesit for you, the offer to re-record the entire album using nothing but cat noises, and the offer to start a private detective agency. It runs all the way up to a $10,000,000 package, for which Run The Jewels offer to “retire from music, making only one song a year for you personally.”

Meow the Jewels is a go.

Last month, Run the Jewels (aka El-P and Killer Mike) announced a bunch of silly fake pre-order packages for their forthcoming album, RTJ2. One of them was called "Meow the Jewels", and was billed as a remixed version of RTJ2 primarily featuring cat sounds. Because the internet is what it is, someone made a Kickstarter to raise the funding for this remix—and because El-P appreciates a good joke, he said he would actually tackle the project if it got funded.
Well, it's actually happening: This afternoon, the Kickstarter reached the $45,100 funding threshold. As El-P put it: "WE DID IT, YOU CRAZY MOTHERfrickERS." El has also stated that he'll donate some of the money to benefit the families of Eric Garner and Mike Brown.
Meanwhile, El-P and Killer Mike will be joined by Zola Jesus, Just Blaze, Baauer, Portishead's Geoff Barrow, the Alchemist, Boots, Dan the Automator, and many more artists in the quest to bring this absurd thing to life.

Evidently folks here aren't nearly as pumped on this album as I am. Anyway, here's a video of Jamie and Mike as they're holed up out in the middle of nowhere in a cabin to record the album. They talk a lot about their working relationship and friendship as well as their process (which evidently involves smoking a lot of weed and occasionally tripping).

The latest on "Meow the Jewels."
El-P interviews cats at the Brooklyn BARC for samples. Hilarity.

"This is why the album's not called Bark the Jewels."
Kicking myself for not massaging my work schedule to get to catch these guys in Little Rock two days ago.

Producer gave me a beat said it's the beat of the year. I said, "LP didn't do it, so get the frick out of here."

My fave line on the whole album - "Riverdance cleats on your face for the finisher."
Seriously, only El-P can dream up some shite like that.

That was an absolutely fantastic year on my end of the year list for rap. Mike's album topped my list. I still listen to it in the gym.
The video for "Big Beast" is an absolute masterpiece. That song is TI at his best as well.
