Why does the Offensive Line seem to be underperforming?

I know I'll have several smart replies to this, but I thought our line was hyped to supposedly be one of the best in the nation. That is not the case so far. No large holes develop until later in the game when the other team is worn down. With the running backs LSU has, if the line is doing its job, they should be breaking off occasional long runs from the start of the game, especially considering who we've played thus far. If this improves (and it probably will) LSU will be unstoppable. TIA for your opinions.

Happens every year. I think more of it is predictive play calling. It's tough for six to block nine.

I think there's been a lack of urgency. When they turned up in the second half vs. Wisconsin, I thought they were really good.

Play calling and frankly they are just not as good as we believe our thought they would be. We anticipated improvement with a new OL coach but its not there. How one of them still starts is beyond me.

I know Wisconsin did a lot of run blitzes as well as stunts that the O-line had a hard time picking up. I think I read that NLU did a lot of stunting as well.

The O-line was supposed to be the strength of our offense this year BUT, it is much easier to block with a balanced offense. Teams will continue to stack the box until we can back them out with the pass.

Bingo.

Not from this year, but here's a good example of that problem. 9 defenders within 5 yards of the ball. Our opponents will many times do this regardless of field position.

As the passing game continues to improve hopefully that balance emerges. Excited about the future of this team. Stacked!

did you see how much ULM stunted and blitzed???? its their MO. i don't care who you play, its going to be tough establishing anything with a scheme like that and with a D already loading the box. no they didn't have their best game but it was a great learning opportunity.

watch the replay? Waaay too many whiffs on regular fronts. Very confused on D stunts. Sorry to take it out on specifics, but 74 and 55 had really bad first halves.

55 is kind of understandable. Kind of.

we telegraph every play
no creativity in play calling
no use of speed and agile players in space
Les's philosophy and brand of football are known and teams gameplan around that

It's easy to stop us when you know exactly how to prepare for it. Eventually the smaller teams (and occasionally even the big ones) will get worn down by our coach's approach to football, but not always and the people watching will almost always leave unsatisfied with the product on the field.

Okay, I'll give you that one. First game.
I was REALLY pissed at 74. Looked like he was just going through the motions. Pass blocking was good, but his run blocking SUCKED.

This was like a season opener for #55. Many were glad to see him return.

But overall, I am not sure the line is as good as rated, but hopefully they'll meet expectations. It's a team game--the team is 3-0, but there is always room for improvement.

On a blog during the ULM game, someone asked if Grimes was underachieving--I still feel it is was too soon to label him as subpar. He seems to be doing well on the recruiting front, and it always take some time to adjust to a new coach, even if he is obviously better than his predecessor.

The only center we've played that's performed well relative to expectations has been Dodd.

Why is play calling still bad?

He didn't say play calling is bad. He said the line wasn't as good as expected.
