Arkansas judge loses job over online comments about actress Charlize Theron

quote:

Faulkner County Circuit Judge Michael Maggio admitted posting details from Theron's closed-record adoption of a child in 2012 on "tigerdroppings.com," a Louisiana State University fan site, using the online name "geauxjudge," according to documents that a judicial commission submitted to the state Supreme Court.

quote:

The commission's report includes five pages of comments Maggio made in the social media forum on other cases under the username "geauxjudge," including statements on various aspects of gender, race and sexuality issues. The report concluded that he had violated at least 23 judicial codes.

In March, after the identity of "geauxjudge" was confirmed to be Maggio, he said in a statement: "I take full responsibility for the comments that have been attributed to me. I apologize deeply for my lapse in personal judgment and for that, I have no excuse.

"The comments posted were not acceptable. These comments are not a reflection of who I am," the judge's statement said, according to CNN affiliate KATV.

it's been all over since this started like a year ago. 5+ threads on the OT the past couple days, and another 4+ threads referencing the national publicity (like one that said "welcome CNN readers, let me introduce you to the major players here" or something similar)

True but it was only reported in the statewide paper up here just last week that he had his license revoked and his salary discontinued.

For a topic to be Germans, this ranks in the teutonic era.

He posted the Charlize Theron thing, and it's a matter of public record what state court she adopted in. He also had posts talking about his high school, college, and law school alma maters, which made it pretty easy to match up which judge in that court was leaking to TD. Not exactly NSA-level stuff.

This will become more and more common.

I'd imagine most people who post on here would get bit by this if they tried to run for public office.

High traffic boards, especially conservative ones, are monitored by the thought police in law enforcement.

I think there was a case a while back where the owners of a message board had to reveal the ID of one poster due to some legal issues.

A person I know of was an federal gov employee, who was posting some harsh things on another message board. A few days later, this person gets a call from the higher ups telling this person to knock it off.

Be careful what & how you post, especially on political boards.
I am more than capable of taking care of my family and myself but several years ago I was talking huge smack with some other posters on another site.
I would reveal small things about who I was and what I did. A poster on this site put two and two together and 'stalked' me for a little while.

This poster knew not to confront me but still it was a little unnerving, especially for my family.
