Go with all in one gateway from ISP or separate router?

I was going to switch ISP and got some suggestions for a wireless router. I bought an ASUS, but when the new potential ISP came out to connect, found out there lines are too far to give me service. I had to go crawling back to U-Verse, in which they now could give me the deal I've had for 2 yrs. Should I use the router or take it back? Would it give me better performance over the one that U-Verse provides? I know that was long winded, but thx for any help.

That would be significantly better than what they would give you.
