Why does LSU use the toss to exchange the ball from QB to the RB?

This seems to be a signature of our running game but it sure seems like the RB has to look at the ball first and secure it before he can look for a lead block or hole.

Can someone put some reasoning into this method?

Also seems like it could be a fumble waiting to happen though we seem to seldom cough it up.

we never fumble it, but it limits the RB and still makes no sense

but hey, we're the only team in football right now that does it, and we dominate our division so it's obviously our secret to winning titles

less than a hand off.

Ive seen it stated by coaches that it gets the ball in the rbs hands faster and gives them a chance to see the field quicker.

Gets the ball to the back quicker allowing him to pick a hole. It is a good play.

Well the one at the goal line where they are going for a dive is hard to watch...

R- Kansas run game scares me...Good golly they look good

QB looks decent as well

I think this might be the year where the top 3 teams in the SEC west has 2 loses

Same question, different day. Same answer - it gets the ball in the RB's hands quicker, giving him more time and space to find an opening and attack it.

Probably because it's discussed on here all the time and has been covered on almost every televised LSU game since 2011. Just off the top of my head. (I didn't downvote BTW, still thinking about it though.)

It also makes it easier for the defense to identify the ball carrier a fraction earlier. That's a huge advantage for the defense. I don't like the way LSU uses the dive toss so frequently.

It's an awful play that preceded Cam Cameron at LSU... which is good evidence Les's Michigan Big Two offense holds too much sway here.

It allows the runner to get the ball faster, he can see the whole developing much quicker, and he can decide if he needs to make a cut sooner rather than later. This isn't a LSU thing some college programs and NFL teams use the same play and it works most of the time.

that was awesome.

It really is no different than having your QB in the shotgun handing it off. He gets the ball at the same depth.

What we run would be a really good compliment to a toss sweep, but we don't run that. So essentially, it's pointless.

So Hawthorne can follow the play easier.
