After their close call with Hawaii and Eastern Washington, I thought Washington was crappy. They look impressive today

You're right. Illinois just has a coach incapable of preparing a team or recruiting power conference talent. Time for some of these schools to start ponying up the big bucks for real coaching staffs.

The main downfall of the B1G IMO is the lack of coaching depth.
James Franklin and Urban Meyer are the only two big name guys since Brady Hoke has been exposed as a fraud.
Recruits will still come to schools in the north if they like the coach. It's been proven by Ohio State, Michigan (the have players, just not being utilized) Penn State and Illinois with Zook.
Until B1G schools open the pocket book and go after top notch coaches then the B1G will continue to be the Big 1 (every once in a while someone is good for a year) and little 13.
