Dropped my .270 (Browning A-bolt w/ Boss) need to re-zero. Considering different brands of factory ammo and would like the board's opinion. I realize that each gun has its preferences. Nonetheless, what factory ammo works best for your .270 (make/grain)?

Been shooting remington core-lokt 130 gr. in my 700 since '04 when I got it. Want to know why? Come look in my freezer

Whichever of the cheap winchester/federal/remington ammo is the most accurate. I'd stick to 130 grain for whitetail deer.

Thanks for the responses. I've been using 150gr Winchester ever since I've had the gun with good results. I'd like to make the change to 130gr now. That's the gun's bread and butter round; and I'd like to put more energy into the deer and less energy into the dirt at shorter ranges

it's not the round, the gun or scope. it's the shot placement

unless you want to talk ballistics with Downshift like he's shooting 500+ yards

again

Ballistics chief.

I know where to aim; and I hit where aim.

I shoot 130gr. out of my .270. My favorite bullets are Barnes TTSX, Ted Nugent with the Barnes TTSX, and Federal Preimum with the amber color tip. Winchester Ballistc silver tips grouped really well out of my .270 but I don't care for the performance on deer, it fragments too much for my liking.

Should I say a .243 is the flattest and most efficient caliber for deer at 100 grain

You pound away at a deer with your 150 grain 30-06

I've never lost a deer or had trouble with finding a one with a .243 boat tail

You remind me of my buddy that shoots the biggest and baddest 150 .270 and has to shoot twice for reassurance even after the kill shot

The best .270 performance I've seen was from cheap federal blue box 150 round nose. The 130's are in a close second.

That 20 grains makes so much of a difference

This. The controlled expansion/bonded/premium $2/round loads will kill deer just fine, but they really aren't necessary for the run of the mill whitetail deer in these woods. Core-Lokts, Power Points, etc. have benefitted from over 80 years of development and evolution so that they're pretty good now.

I've done a lot of research on this very topic the last few months and the round I've found with the best ballistics is the Hornady 130 grain SST. I've been a Core-Lokt guy for over 20 years now but bought my first few boxes of Hornadys last week.
