Could a creeper be charged with a crime for creating a bogus match.com profile ?

A good friend discovered a false profile on match which was created using some of her personal information. The creep engaged in some pretty raunchy dialogue with many men. I'm pretty sure one could "forensically" back-track to the creeps IP add. Is that a correct assumption ? But, would he then face any legal charges ?
Thanks

And how was this profile discovered exactly? She was looking for another girl just like herself?

Or she's just embarrassed that her profile was found and she claimed it wasn't her.
