Gonna book wife and I's honeymoon in Costa Rica soon (going next summer). Plan on staying 3-4 nights at the Nayara Spa and Gardens Hotel. We also want to venture out to the Pacific side of the island. Anyone have places, hotels or recommendations for things to do in Costa Rica, especially on the West Side of the country? Thanks in advance.

How many days total will you be there?

My husband and I went for our honeymoon in CR March 2013. Amazing trip.

We booked entire thing(except flights) through Gecko Trails. Travel company in CR. Literally stepped off plane and everything already taken care of. All transportation, excursions and hotels.

We flew into San Jose, spent 2 nights in Monteverde(rainforest high up in the mountains...gorgeous and amazing zipling); spent 2 nights in Arenal volcano area(must see); and spent 3 nights in Manuel Antonio on Pacific side.

My best advice if you want to hop around and stay in different places....PACK LIGHT!!!!

Don't bring a suitcase....bring a backpack like one would backpack through Europe in. Then you can take the small planes to each location. Instead of driving 4 hours. Don't let the maps fool you. It looks close together on the map but because of the road conditions....takes much longer than you think.

Our biggest regret was we packed too much and didn't fly to all our locations while there. Next time we go we will know better.

Excursions we did while there: zip lining, white water rafting, volcano hike and going to natural hot springs, rappelling waterfalls, and a failed attempt at scuba diving

You are welcome. Make sure to tell everyone there it's your honeymoon. People love honeymooners. And people in CR are so friendly. Many rely on tourism to make a living so make sure to bring a lot of US dollar bills to tip with when you receive good service and for cabs, bellboys, etc.

We didn't get huge, huge honeymoon perks, but would get flower arrangements in our room, stuff like that. Our final night in San Jose before flying out early the next am we did get a free room upgrade as well.

On one of our excursions we were presented with wine and dessert after rappelling while everyone else was sipping on water eating rice and beans looking at us all jealous

Another resort near Arenal to consider(that is expensive but really nice) is The Springs Resort. We went there one night to enjoy their natural hot springs. Just gorgeous.

This was what I was coming here to post. Went for my honeymoon in January. Ask for room 50 at Nayara (top of the hill-you look down at the rest of the property). Ask for room 703A at arenas del mar (again, best views at the resort).

We chartered a flight to get between the two which was a lot of fun!

My wife and I went for our honeymoon a year ago but we stayed closer to Jaco at Villa Caletas. It was awesome. Someone mentioned Manuel Antonio...definitely check that out if you like wildlife. Just be wary about douches when you start getting close to the park. They'll make you park really far away and will be really pushy about it. If someone with a telescope asks you if you want a tour, I'd do it. We saw animals that we wouldn't have otherwise been able to see.

We also did a zipline tour with Adventure Park. I cannot recommend this enough. The guides were awesome and it was an excellent experience. Easily my favorite part of the trip.

Also, the video I made of ziplining with my GoPro: LINK

it's like they trained and hid creatures is certain spots. pretty crazy. "Oh, I think there might be a highly poisonous brain-eating fuzzy spider under this leaf. Sure enough there he eeez!"

Manuel Antonio NF and the Naranjo are great (in addition to just chilling at the beach, surfing etc). My friend has two bungalows on a hill overlooking the beach and forest. I'd post a VRBO link but don't want to get in trouble. Terrific spot. I hate resorts, so it is heaven to me.

I was there last in rainy season--early Nov (May-Dec is rainy season). It rained some every day, but also got plenty of sunshine.

There were three murders in Quepos up the road while we were there, but whatevs. Manuel Antonio seemed much safer.

You should limit your travels to the Pacific side and hills. The East Coast stinks. There are two Marriott resorts on the Pacific that are great.

ETA: Our first trip there we put over 1000 miles on the rental in 5 days. We went everywhere. Second trip we chilled close to the resort and took it easy.

The big Marriott resort is Los Suenos. It is about 15 minutes from Jaco where a lot of your adventure activities take place. I would stay somewhere around there and enjoy the beach and go out on the water. Manuel Antonio is nice but I was glad we went on a one day trip there instead of staying in the area.

Check on their rain season before you book.

That's one, Guanacaste is the other. We liked it more but there is less to do nearby. As stated, Los Suenos was near Jaco, which is pretty happening. We'd go to Jaco to eat and get shite then go sleep poolside away from the Jaco riffraff.

This for sure. We day tripped out there. Much prefer to wake up to the sound of waves crashing.
