The reason why Senator Roberts is in trouble and why Brownback is not going to win reelection is because the current revenue crisis in the state is being attributed to Brownback's tax cut legislation.

It was poorly-timed, and is giving democrats and statists plenty of ammo.

So, let me get this right. People in Kansas are going to vote themselves a Tax hike? That should get the working people out to the polls...

I just read an article about this and it's hard for me to see the reason why people would vote away these tax cuts.

Seems like the only reason is to give the state government more revenue? Who cares about the state gov getting more revenue?

The state saw a slight surplus in tax collections in July. Since the current fiscal year began July 1, the state has collected about $829 million in revenues, against projections of nearly $832 million. The difference is about $2.4 million, or 0.3 percent.

To be clear, we're talking about 0.3 motherfricking percent.

So they cut taxes and still got a similar return? If they vote these guys out then that state is filled with fools.

If I extrapolate, it's an estimate of $14 million per year.

Or 0.3 mother fricking percent.

The Brownback administration projected a $322 million deficit in the Kansas budget for the current fiscal year. Since Kansas started the year with reserves of $434 million, the state will run out of cash if it falls as short of the Brownback projection as it did last fiscal year.

Even if the Republicans temporarily win the senate in 2014 it will be extremely short lived.

The numbers of seats up for grabs, geography/politics of these seats, and presidential election in 2016 (meaning higher Dem turnout) are all extremely favorable to the Democrats.

The Dems will have more Senate seats in February of 2016 than they have now - this is a virtually indisputable fact.

The Kansas Supreme Court this year ordered the state to increase funding by $130 million to address the inequality of the education funding formula from one school district to the next.

There's a chunk of the problem. And the previous state government had enough cash on hand to buy maybe a pickup. So if Kansans want to go back to that, they are welcome to it. It's a miserable shithole of a state filled with horrible people anyway.

Kansas and Nebraska girls are surprisingly hot and are cool as hell. I'd never been to either state prior to January.

I live In kansas and work for the state... most don't like Brownback here... he made all these promise and hasant kept a single one. Also he vetoed a 8% raise for state employees mind you we haven't had a raise in 5 years..

That's fine and dandy. The House will be GOP controlled until at least 2020.

Enjoy the next 6 years, lefty.

So? Who has? Are state workers special? State workers generally love the governors who hand out raises paid for by other citizens.
