If the GOP wants to take the Senate it has to keep the seats it has.

And in Kansas, this was thought to be assured. Roberts is a 17-year member having never had a serious challenge. Even though he was facing two opponents (Democrat Chad Taylor and independent Greg Orman) he was thought to have this race won easily.

But assuming makes donkeys of everyone. On 9/4 Taylor suddenly drops out of the race. Orman starts surging in the polls and now has a real shot of winning.

Add one final twist--the Kansas Secretary of State has ruled that Taylor can't take his name off the ballot; he's suing to do so.

What happened to all the "vote out all incumbents" talk that used to be so popular here?

I wish they would lace up some boxing gloves and go at it; at least we'd know the winner COULD put up a fight

Does Orman lean left or right? If he is a more libertarian guy id support him winning as long as he caucuses with the GOP

Some of us still feel that way.

He's a lefty. Claims he voted for Romney in 2012, though, but supports more government intervention in the economy.

Hes going to Caucus with whoever the Majority is. He been involved in both political parties at some point. Hes basically a centrist at this point but i'm not sure what that actually means in reality.

He co-founded the Common Sense Coalition in 2010 to give a voice to what he called “the sensible center,” those voters who don’t feel represented by either party.

Running straight down the middle of political lines seems hard as frick.

Then he can get fricked. I was hoping for a conservative lean on economic and foreign policy, but left lean on social issues.

Well, you haven't posted incessantly to call for the head of this obscure Kansas GOP senator, so Green Chile has GOTCHA. Sorry.

What is a conservative lean on foreign policy these days?

Some conservatives listening to Dick Chenny Again
Some conservatives listening to Rand Paul.

10 years ago it seemed a bit more clear.

Depends on your source.

Looking at his website he has an online petition calling for, among other things, term limits for Congress. Not that too many Republicans like the idea but I don't know of any Democrats that do.

He's run as a Democrat before.

If the Democrat isn't removed from the ballot, it will be tough for Orman to win, IMO.

Sure Kansas is going to vote in someone that would help Obama keep the Senate.

Since the Democrat dropped out of the race, that should tell you who is throwing their weight behind him.

That weight doesn't come free.

Conservatives in Kansas had a prime opportunity at a primary win, but instead, they supported a candidate (who's a doctor) who posted private X-Rays on his Facebook page. A good, smart conservative would have destroyed Roberts big time in the primary.

Like Louisiana's senator, Roberts does not live in Kansas and many Kansans - left, right or center - have turned on him for it.

I still think he's the favorite to win. There are cracks emerging in Orman's candidacy.

The horror. The fricking horror.

Let's see... a career politician who has made a living raping the taxpayer and enriching himself off the taxpayer dime while having nothing to do with the state he is supposed to represent,

or a man who posted anonymous x-ray photos on a Facebook page.

Hmmm... which is worse

He's a progressive without the guts to admit it. That's the correct definition of a self proclaimed, "centrist".

Well, in my district we have the most right winger in the world. But if you can find someone opposing him who is more right wing, I'll certainly vote Fleming out.
