Local news posted a slide show of pictures regarding the reactions on 9/11. I found this one interesting:

Note: I'm not making any kind of commentary linking 9/11 to the rise in gas prices. It just re-occurred to me after seeing the photo that it wasn't that long ago that we had very cheap gas.

When gas hit a dollar, we thought the world was going to end.

How much was it around six o'clock in the evening on 9/11?

Some upstanding capitalists thought it best to double and triple the price.

Gas is still pretty cheap, if we are truly honest about it.

It should probably be around $2.70 right now if we just did a strict inflation progression, instead of $3.40 or whatever I saw this morning, but still, $3.40 for a gallon of gas is a steal. That is basically 2 bottles of water.

It was in south Louisiana. $1.38 is what I remember. $1.68 was the national average in December 2008

It got down to $1.34 in Shreveport. Amazing what happens when the market is truly supply and demand and not artificially inflated by investors.

My car doesn't run on bottles of water.

$3.40 is 24 bottles of water. Unless you're one of those idiots that buys gas station water at ridiculous markups

why do people always compare Gas to water. they are different, is 1 OZ of Gold the same price as 1 OZ of lead?

If taxes weren't $.50/gal that would sure help. Not to mention all the other taxes the gov receives before the gas actually get from the earth to your car.
