Civics Question: Does The US Need An Executive Branch?

Does the United States really need a president? Could the US get by with simply having a congress and a judiciary, with the congress appointing and placing heads of agencies and the like (would obviously take amendment of procedures currently in place).

I'd rather keep a president, but eliminate the agencies. They are unelected, unaccountable and too powerful.

Why do you hate the constitution?

Who would oversee and manage the agencies?

Of course. You need a "trusted" person who can take immediate action, and not wait for a bill to filter through Congress.

Well you still have an executive branch, it would just be different. It sounds like you are talking about a parliamentary system.
There are pros and cons. I think it would be difficult in bicameral system like the US has. What if the House and Senate cannot agree on who to pick?

We need an Executive Branch but the amount of power it wields needs to be SERIOUSLY rebalanced.
The three branches are supposed to be co-equal but, the way things are looking, the executive is the most powerful branch followed by the judicial branch with the legislative branch coming up dead last.

That said, we must check the executives powers just like any over branch. The erosion of those checks is something we should be concerned about--EVEN IF WE LIKE THE GUY IN POWER AT THE TIME.
Power in the hands of someone you like and agree with today, will almost certainly become power in the hands of someone you don't like or agree with tomorrow.

I think they had a debate over this in like 1787

of course we could. there are plenty of parliamentary democracies. Not sure why it would be better though

Yes we need it because of the Veto Power. The more that power is distributed in Govt rather than consolidated, the better
