Attending Voodoo fest...... Questions

This will be my first music festival. I'm not sure how it works. You buy GA and it's just stand where you can or what? Should I get there hours in advance or just as soon as the doors open? Any advice in all would be helpful. TIA

Get there 5 minutes before the first band you want to see that day.

I get there around 11:00am. It's not easy to get a good parking spot. I usually park down the same neighborhood street every year. Parking is my biggest issue cause I worry about returning and not finding my car. lol.
They check your bags really good at the gate so if your are trying to sneak in good stuff, be careful.
You have 2 options to view concerts; I've done both and both were fun.
1) Bounce around and watch part of one band and one stage then bounce to the next stage and watch a band.
2) Arrive early and get a great spot in front of one of the main stages. Stay there for the whole day and into the night. Others will be doing the same so they know who has that spot. When you pee or make a beer run, have a friend stay in that spot. Once night falls, don't move.
