<------------

So, with the DVD/Blu-Ray out today, seems likes it's a good time to talk about Captain America.

Recently, Chris Evans corrected the rumors about "quitting acting," that had floated around for a long time:

quote:

"Who's handing off the shield? Don't take my job from me prematurely, dude," he asked, when the subject of another hero picking up Cap's shield was raised during an interview with MTV. "I got a few more movies that I have to finish first, which I'm happy to do. I'm sure it'll happen at some point, all good things have to come to an end. But I'm really happy playing the character."

LINK

He certainly sounds open to more movies, so that's good. Evans has potential to be the person who they build the series on for Avengers 3 seeing as RDJ recently squashed Iron Man 4 hopes.

Talking about 3,maybe Skull will return...

quote:

Anthony Russo, about the return of the Red Skull: “We can’t really comment specifically in terms of where we’re going with it, just because we don’t want to spoil anything for anybody. But certainly, look. That’s the great thing about the Marvel universe, is anything is possible. All these characters exist. And as we’ve seen on the publishing side, there’s very inventive, creative ways to make characters relevant again and surprising ways to make the characters relevant again. He’s a great character. Whether or not he finds his way back I can’t really say.”

LINK

And on the subtitle, which might reveal a bunch..

quote:

Has the title been in place for a while?

Joe Russo: If you’ve been talking to Kevin [Feige, President of Marvel Studios] the title has been in place probably for ten years in his brain. It’s all part of the road map that he’s laid out, and it’s all part of the bigger plan.

Russo Interview

Maybe news?

Posted Last Night

quote:

Big announcement tomorrow in honor of #CaptainAmerica #WinterSoldier coming to Blu-ray - stay tuned! #SHIELDvsHydra

ETA: Then they just killed fans...

quote:

FYI, the @CaptainAmerica news today isn't about the next film. (SORRY!) It's about a rad event happening today in LA. #settingexpectations

I still think the big elements are going to be:
Global/International in Scope
Strong Possibility of Black Panther
Winter Soldier starts wrecking remnants of Hydra still in play

Thoughts?

My speculation is that they get Chris Evans to be Cap for a few more appearances in exchange for either funding a movie he wants to direct, or letting him direct a Marvel movie.

ETA: Disney has done this in the past with Emilio Esteves and Mighty Ducks 3.

I wonder if the events of AoU will have a bearing on Cap 3 and maybe some other phase 3 movies.

It'd be an extremely safe play, fund more than a few movies, let him expand his skillset...maybe let him direct in the MCU if he's talented enough?

Win for everyone.

I think with his Captain America experience, and having worked with the Russo Bros, a natural try out would be for an ep of Agent Carter.

Certainly, and according to that interview, Cap 3 changes things as well.

There are rumors of Cap leading his own team as well, which might get interesting. I'm not sure I like that. If we get Thanos in A3...Cap must stand toe to toe with him. It's required.

The Russos are already doing an episode as well.

i would love Red Skull to come back for the third. Ive been disappointed we have yet to find out where he disappeared too. I thought he would have ties to the Avengers movie. But yeah, hoping he comes back.

I like what Evans is doing and saying. He had some tough early years, so Im glad to see his success. Briefly met him at an LSU game years ago (believe it was between FF 1 and 2).

It does seem they might be positioning Cap to take over for Fury if he ends up dying in one of the movies.

Yup. The only problem with this is that it will persist with the "No one ever dies" meme that Marvel has going for it.

I actually don't have a problem with the whole :no death" thing. But then again, I grew up with comic books and video games. Both properties make death near meaningless.

It's hard to trust personas, but he seems like a grounded guy.

Civil War n A4.... Do it Marvel.

Thanos Destroys a large portion of the world's population and the Phase 4 movies deal with that fact culminating in Avengers 4: Civil War.

What is the potential subtitle for the next one? I feel I'm missing something obvious.

Updated title.

Marvel, through the Captain America twitter channel, said they had a "Big Announcement" related to the DVD/Blu-Ray release of WS. People thought subtitle last night....ended up being an event in LA. Lame.

They probably just didn't want to give too much away this far in advance of the movie.

I still haven't seen Winter Solider yet and have been waiting anxiously for today's release date. Now I have to decide if I'm going to go ahead and watch it tonight or wait till my daughter gets home from college this weekend and watch it with her. I'll probably end up doing both though.

I mean, red skull never died. I saw it as him getting transported through time and space. It looked exactly like the gateway they show for Asgard and the other realms.

The rumored subtitle is "Captain America: Fallen Son".

Also, while Bucky was Captain America, wasn't Steve named "Commander Rogers" and leading a black ops version of the Avengers?

Yup, Secret Avengers. Was a fun team too with Moon Knight, Widow, Beast, War Machine. Even Nova spent some time with them.

There's some possibility for MCU-ness there.

A few problems, it deals with the Death of Cap, and it's closely tied to Civil War. It could work, but it would take some serious editing.

And I don't see them doing that, that would also mean he's a death in AoU....

Already watched it once and about to start my second viewing. Only thing I was disappointed about is no Marvel One Shot. I guess I was just assuming they would do one with every Blu-ray release

Finally caught it last night. Very good movie. I'd stop short of saying it as a great movie but I enjoyed it.

Strangely both females in my house lost interest after the long action/fight scene at the beginning.

I thought they executed the Winter Solider storyline very well. The Falcon stuff felt a little forced and the Black Widow/CA friendship building didn't seem all that organic. But the plot was well conceived and timely and I loved the fight scenes and the dilemma of the Shield workers.
