Do I have a trump card as a commenter of the Ray Rice situation?

libprogs and SJWs love to play the "you can't discuss issues with [insert black person/problem], because you're not black"
well i am offended, because there are TONS of people who are commenting on the ray rice situation without being a member of a household that had domestic violence. as a person who unfortunately was, this is bullshite. *i* am the expert on this shite, not these people.
they shouldn't even be commenting on the issue

The blaming the victim on this board (pre-vid and now post-vid) has been disgusting, especially knowing people who have gone through the same things and had the same reactions (see the Janay Rice thread).

well she is an adult. if she wants to stay with him and not press charges, then that's her choice. he was still prosecuted and was put into a diversion program as a first-time offender (which is very common in these scenarios)

yep she forgave him (perhaps for the paycheck?), but that seems to be spiraling downward. He deserves consequences, but seems to me losing your job and being shunned is a little too harsh. There do seem to be many high horse riders on the message boards that should throw the first stone.

as a former child observer/victim of DV, which makes me THE expert, i can say 2 things
1. there is a BIG difference in a single, terrible incident and a pattern of behavior
2. we're dealing with 2 adults here. to me, the fact that no children are involved makes a huge difference

I do not claim to know it well, but there is, I believe, a hierarchy of oppression that determines who is allowed to comment authoritatively. I fear that your actual life experience comes in below racial identity and gender, with gender taking the lead this morning.

We're a hyper empirical society. So a report of spouse abuse can be alarming. But it there's video, Katy bar the door. If it bleeds, it leads. And if it leads, there needs to be a larger social commentary on it.

The most interesting thing about this episode is the power of video surveillance. In the past no one would have seen Rice pulling his unconscious fiance out of the elevator, we only would have read about or heard about a "domestic violence" incident and the suspension probably wouldn't have been a huge issue. BUT seeing the surveillance video and having it shown all over the news and internet created a sensation - seeing domestic violence is much more powerful than hearing about it.
The commish makes new rules, everyone is sorta cool, then video of the actual punch comes out. The video changes none of the facts - he hit his fiance and knocked her out. But again seeing it is so much more powerful that people treat it as new evidence and Rice is kicked off his team and effectively out of the league.

this is just one big example of emotional-irrational thinking, sheep/lemming behavior, and mob justice
